There was a freeze warning last night. Specific regional low temperatures recorded across the panhandle dipped to a range of 25 to 29 degrees last night. Areas along the westernmost edge and higher elevations closer to the Wyoming border experienced the deepest freeze, while the eastern edge of the panhandle hovered around 32 degrees today. If you have sensitive outdoor vegetation or exposed pipes, you may want to check on them, as another freeze watch is in effect for parts of central and eastern Nebraska heading into tonight. Despite the freeze warning today and tomorrow, temperatures could reach 56 today and possibly 78 degrees tomorrow. Kimball listeners will want to be advised that there is a fire drill scheduled for today at 3 p.m. at the Kimball County Courthouse. Emergency vehicles will be present at the courthouse during the drill. Please be aware that any business being conducted at the courthouse during this time will be temporarily interrupted. That's a fire drill today, October 16th at 3 p.m. at the Kimball County Courthouse. We're starting to get phone calls on all these articles that our courthouse reporter, Raul Fernandez, is putting up on the internet for everyone to read. Anywhere from 6 to 12 articles a day when we post them, he's keeping us all busy. And with that comes a lot of questions. We received four phone calls yesterday from people asking us why we're covering these cases. We're a news service. We have a courthouse reporter. If you get into trouble and it's in a courthouse document, you could find yourself on the air. In any case, don't blame us for being reporters. And do your best to keep yourself out of the public record. That's going to do it for today's Scanner News. Thanks again for listening and may God bless. I'm Brian Hale.

There's a freeze watch in effect for the Nebraska Panhandle from late tonight through Friday morning. We can expect sub-freezing temperatures falling to 27 to 33 degrees Fahrenheit. Frost and freezing conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation, and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. Take steps to protect tender plants and plumbing from the cold. Remember, if you need help with plumbing, you can call Oregon Trail Plumbing and Heating right here in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Snowy conditions throughout the early mornings in the high country, eventually reaching Cheyenne, Wyoming with accumulations of one inch of snow possible. Several new stories from our courthouse reporter, Raul Fernandez, doing an excellent job reporting at the courthouse. Here's one. Officer Safely Dodges Collision. A Scottsbluff man pled no contest to DUI after a traffic stop with sentencing set for November. And DUI On The Tracks. The story of a Scottsbluff man who faces DUI charges after his vehicle got stuck on the railroad tracks had a blood alcohol content of .259. He was definitely off track. Or Time Served For Park Incident, and that was drugs in the park. Scottsbluff woman received time served for pleading guilty to attempted possession of meth from a July Park incident. I'm not sure what attempted possession is, but that's the charge. These stories and more all on Panhandle Scanner on Facebook and Panhandlescanner.com on our news page right there at diggingdeeper.net. And of course, don't forget our daily public record with the results of all of these stories from the courthouse. That's going to do it for today's scanner news. Thanks again for listening and may God bless. I'm Brian Hale.

HATE GROUP CAUSING DIVISION IN COMMUNITY The Scottsbluff Police Department has put out an additional press release on the accident Friday night involving the pedestrian fatality near Scottsbluff High School. In every case of this nature, we remind everyone that those who could be or have been charged are innocent until proven guilty. At this point, no one has been charged. We have been made aware of a Facebook group calling for the young man's imprisonment in the title of the group. The group's description itself calls for the justice system to work better and that's something we can all relate to. However, their title has caused a high emotional response rather than a worthwhile debate on the need for more safety at that specific location. We understand that the young man is remorseful and wants to apologize to the family. It sounds like he very well understands the impact of the incident and is ready to face the consequences in a court of law if he is charged. Let's all have some respect and courtesy and let law enforcement sort things out. The concept behind forming a group for justice in the court is a good idea, but calling for a young man's imprisonment before any evidence has been revealed is grossly immature. We ask the community to think before they start something that they could later regret. Keep in mind that we have to continue to live and work together in this community. We believe good will come out of this in the end. Our prayers for everyone involved. For more on this community controversy, see our Facebook page or our website at panhandlescanner.com. But please don't feed into it. Just be aware that it could happen to anyone. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. That's going to do it for today's Scanner News. Thanks again for listening and may God bless. I'm Brian Hale.

Yesterday around noon, scanner traffic indicated a call in Gering with a 60's year old gentleman suffering a gunshot wound, reportedly self-inflicted, to the chest.

[Update on that gunshot wound, we have a 66 year old male, full code, gave a total of five rounds of epi, just gave 50 of bicarb, got him on fluids, running, does have a gunshot wound to his right side lower chest. Did do a finger thoracotomy on that side. Do have an eight millimeter, an eight tube, 802 going, ventilations right now. Still silent. We'll have an update on arrival. We'll be there in about six.]

We continue to pray for the gentleman as well as our first responders.

On Monday after 2 p.m., a rollover accident in Scottsbluff occurred. Scanner traffic indicated a vehicle accident at 21st and South Beltline Highway. Scanner insiders captured a photo, which could be found on our Facebook page. Our prayers for everyone involved. No further information was available at the time.

The Scottsbluff Police Department has put out an updated press release on the accident Friday night involving the pedestrian fatality. As always, in every case, we want to remind everyone that those who could be or have been charged are innocent until proven guilty. At this point, no one has been charged.

Meanwhile, there should not be any hateful or hurtful messages floating around. We understand the young man is remorseful and wants to apologize to the family. It sounds like he very well understands the impact of the incident and is ready to face the consequences in a court of law if he is charged.

Let's all have some respect and courtesy and let law enforcement sort things out. Special thanks to the Scottsbluff Police Department for putting out the additional press release.

That's going to do it for today's Scanner News. Thanks again for listening and may God bless. I'm Brian Hale.

While the month of October is Pastor Appreciation Month, we also recognized and celebrated National Pastor Appreciation Day yesterday on Sunday to remind everyone how important it is to support our local Christian leaders. The entire month is recognized as National Clergy Appreciation Month, so you still have time to show your appreciation. Local pastors like personal things like hand written thank you notes, gift cards for groceries, gas, or food, covering a weekend of duties, helping arrange a day off, or even home cooked meals or baked goods. October is Pastor Appreciation Month. Speaking of the weekend, it was a windy one. The area experienced some gusty conditions that apparently brought some poles down onto 42nd Street in Scotts Bluff. A power outage was also caused by those downed poles, with local authorities and NPPD working hard to get things restored. Kite Festival out at the Soccer Complex was also affected, with the Scottsbluff Rural Fire District responding to a balloon stuck in some wires. And the Sunday Scanner is out, packed full of stories over the past week. Check it out on Panhandlescanner.com or on our Facebook page. But the weekend was also with some tragedy. A 17-year-old motorcyclist was killed Sunday afternoon in a collision on US Highway 385 and West 3rd Street in Alliance, followed minutes later by a separate crash in which a vehicle struck a local furniture store. Emergency responders were dispatched to the first crash at approximately 1.35 p.m. on Sunday, with information indicating a southbound passenger vehicle attempted to turn east onto West 3rd Street, crossing into the path of the oncoming motorcycle. The teenage motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries. That's going to do it for today's Scanner News. Thanks again for listening and may God bless. I'm Brian Hale.

Have you heard about the Leaf Legacy Project from Terrytown, Nebraska? The city is preparing to begin work on the Leaf Legacy Project, funded through the Urban and Community Forestry Grant by Plant Nebraska and the USDA Forest Service. The first phase of the project will focus on Terry's Lake. The city will be seeking bids for tree pruning, tree removal and stump grinding, and tree planting. Contractors may submit bids for one or more of these activities. Mandatory pre-bid tour will be held at 10 a.m. on October 9th. Contractors must attend the tour to be eligible to submit a bid. The group will meet at the southeast entrance of Terry's Lake off Martha Road.

In a recent court case reported on by our courthouse reporter Raul Fernandez, a Terrytown man pled guilty Monday to three misdemeanor charges stemming from a September incident involving the alleged violation of a domestic abuse protection order. Nicholas Salazar, 24, of Scotts Bluff appeared by video on the 5th before District Judge Leo Dobrovolny. A fourth count of public indecency, indecent exposure, a Class 2 misdemeanor, was dismissed. According to an affidavit of probable cause, officers responded to the residence around 11.03 p.m. after receiving a call from a protected party.

The reporting party told law enforcement that Salazar had repeatedly called her phone despite an active protection order. She also reported that Salazar later arrived at the residence, knocked on the door, and urinated on the front door, doorstep, and inside the residence.

Police reviewed security camera footage and Salazar was arrested without further incident. Find that story on our news page. That's going to do it for today's scanner news.
