  • Ronaldo vs. Messi: Cards, Legacy & Why Are They Treated So Differently? | PTCC Podcast
    Oct 7 2026

Cristiano Ronaldo vs. Lionel Messi. The debate goes far beyond goals, trophies and who is the GOAT. ⚽🐐

In this episode of the Part Time Card Collector Podcast, I look at Ronaldo and Messi from several different angles, including their impact on the sports card hobby and something I find particularly interesting: the very different ways the two legends have been treated by their clubs, national teams and respective football associations.

    We discuss:

⚽ Ronaldo vs. Messi as players and global icons
💰 Their biggest and most valuable sports cards
📈 Which player may have the stronger long-term card market
🔥 Ronaldo's huge Kaboom! sale and other major cards
🇵🇹 Ronaldo's relationship with Portugal and Portuguese football
🇦🇷 Messi's relationship with Argentina and Argentine football
🏟️ How their respective clubs have treated them
🤔 Why their treatment and public perception can feel so different
🏆 Their legacies as they approach the end of two extraordinary careers
💎 And ultimately, who would I rather collect?

This isn't simply another "Messi or Ronaldo?" argument. I'm looking at how their careers, reputations and treatment within football have shaped their legacies and asking whether that also affects the way collectors view their cards.

Ronaldo or Messi: who has been treated better by their own football establishment, and whose cards would you rather own?

Let me know in the comments.

  • Man City Found Guilty: What Does This Mean for the Soccer Card Hobby? | PTCC
    Oct 1 2026

Manchester City’s 115 charges saga has finally produced a huge verdict, but as collectors, there’s another question I’m interested in:

What could all of this mean for the soccer card hobby?

In this episode of the Part Time Card Collector Podcast, I discuss the fallout from the Manchester City case, Andy Burnham’s comments, the potential consequences for the club, and how uncertainty around one of the biggest teams in world football could filter down into the hobby.

Could Man City cards take a hit? What happens to the hobby interest around players like Erling Haaland, Phil Foden and other City stars if the club faces major sporting consequences? Or does controversy actually create MORE collector interest?

We’ll also talk about the bigger picture: how much does a club’s success really affect player card values, and should collectors care about what happens next?

⚽ Man City and the 115 charges
🃏 Potential impact on soccer cards
📉 Could City player values be affected?
🔥 Haaland, Foden and other City stars
🏆 Club success vs individual player collectability
🎙️ Andy Burnham’s reaction and what happens next

This isn’t just a football story anymore. For soccer card collectors, it could become a hobby story too.

  • My First eBay Live Show + Are Grading Prices Getting Out of Control? | PTCC Podcast #1
    Sep 11 2026

Welcome to Episode #1 of the Part Time Card Collector Podcast! 🎙️

I’m Mo, the Part Time Card Collector, and this week I’m talking about two things that have been on my mind in the hobby.

First, my first eBay Live show. I ran 38 $1-start card auctions in just under 90 minutes and finished with nearly $76 in sales. I’ll talk about what went right, what didn’t, whether I think eBay gave my first show a boost, and the big question going into my next one: do I stick with $1 starts or move up to $2 or $3?

Then we get into card grading.

With Collectors now owning PSA, SGC and Beckett/BGS, what does that mean for collectors? SGC has moved to $50 grading, while PSA's new Standard tier is $59.99. Are collectors slowly being conditioned to accept much higher grading prices?

I also discuss why I haven't personally submitted a card for grading in around 18 months, why I still buy and sell slabs, the flood of graded cards entering the hobby, and why I'm wondering whether another correction could eventually be coming despite the enormous grading numbers we're seeing right now.

Finally, how much should we consider sponsorships and business relationships with grading companies when listening to hobby commentary? It doesn't necessarily make someone's opinion wrong, but knowing where everyone is coming from matters.

💬 Let me know in the comments:
Have you sold on eBay Live or Whatnot? Would you start cards at $1, $2 or $3? And are today's grading prices getting too high?

  • Why PSA Became the Amazon of Card Grading | PSA vs BGS, SGC, CGC & TAG
    Aug 1 2026

Why is PSA the biggest name in sports card grading? In this episode of The Part Time Card Collector Podcast, I explain why I believe PSA became the Amazon of card grading and how it grew into the hobby's dominant grading company.

Much like Amazon became the first place people shop online, PSA became the grading company that many collectors, investors, dealers, auction houses, and sellers trust first. But how did that happen, and is PSA still the best option today?

We'll compare PSA, Beckett (BGS), SGC, CGC, and TAG, discuss what each company does well, and explore the business decisions, market momentum, and collector confidence that helped PSA become the industry's market leader. We'll also look at why PSA-graded cards often command higher resale prices and whether that premium is still justified.

⭐ Why PSA became the hobby's leading grading company
📦 Why I compare PSA to Amazon
📈 Why PSA-graded cards often sell for more
⚖️ PSA vs. Beckett (BGS), SGC, CGC & TAG
💰 Which grading company makes the most sense for collectors and resellers
🎯 Is PSA still the best choice in today's market?

Whether you're grading your first card, building a collection, investing, buying on eBay, selling on Whatnot, or deciding where to submit your next card, understanding the grading landscape can help you make smarter decisions.

If you enjoy content about sports cards, baseball cards, football cards, basketball cards, soccer cards, hockey cards, wrestling cards, Pokémon, trading card grading, PSA, Beckett, BGS, SGC, CGC, TAG, Topps, Panini, Upper Deck, eBay, Whatnot, sports card investing, hobby news, and card collecting, you're in the right place.
