What does it take to get a plant to your garden center and into your garden. It starts with the plant breeder and if that plant is interesting a whole system kicks in.

My guest on this podcast is Peter Rijssen owner of Plantipp, a company based in The Netherlands that represent plant breeders. He acts as their agent.

It’s a great insight into what goes on behind the scenes before plants ever reach your garden

I believe most gardeners want to grow roses, but many are intimidated by them because of their reputation for being difficult.

Matt, Jason, and I look at how roses got this reputation, whether it’s still deserved today, and what all of us who love roses can do to make growing them easier, more approachable, and a lot more fun.

The American Garden Rose Selection Trials are an incredible, and very practical, resource for any rose lover - from new to experienced. Pat Shanley joins me to introduce you to them. In Paul's Journal I talk about the importance of the nights turning cool this time of year and I remember a Quiet Giant.

To say Peter Beales was a giant in the world of roses is an understatement. He was also one of the most enjoyable and kindest people I knew. While I was in the UK recently I sat down with Ian Limmer who started with Peter when he was 15 and knew Peter better than most people. Enjoy our conversation about this wonderful man.
