Murthy's Wit: Despite having little knowledge of astrology, a man named Murthy gains a reputation as a great astrologer purely through his sharp presence of mind, keen observation, and good fortune.

The Royal Challenge: When the Queen's precious diamond necklace goes missing, the King summons Murthy to find it. Having no divine powers but fearing execution if he confesses his lack of skill, Murthy asks for time and stays at the palace.

Catching the Thieves: By closely observing the royal staff, Murthy notices nervous behavior in two maidservants, Lakshmi and Vasantha. Fearing his piercing gaze, the terrified maids secretly confess that their poverty drove them to steal the necklace and beg for his mercy.

A Clever Resolution: Moved by their plight, Murthy instructs them to hide the necklace beneath a champak tree in the royal garden. The next morning, he leads the King to the spot, cleverly claiming a rat dragged the jewel there mistaking it for food.

Generosity & Reform: An overjoyed King rewards Murthy handsomely. On his way home, Murthy shares a portion of his reward with the two maids, advising them to live honestly.

Moral: In critical situations, quick thinking, keen observation, and empathy can solve daunting problems without causing harm to others.
