• EP 227 \\ What Does It Really Take to Build a Lasting Marriage?
    Oct 1 2026

    Hi friend!

In this special episode of Reconnected Marriage, I’m sharing a conversation from a recent invitation to speak with the Lagos Chapter of my university fellowship, NIFES CF, on a subject that is very close to my heart: Building a Lasting Marriage.

A lasting marriage doesn’t simply happen because two people love each other. It is built through the decisions we make, the beliefs we carry, the way we respond to one another, and most importantly, through our willingness to allow God to shape us along the way.

In this conversation, I reflect on some of the principles that help couples build a marriage they can continue to enjoy through different seasons of life.

Whether you’re married, engaged, or simply becoming more intentional about the marriage you’re building, I believe there will be something in this conversation for you.

As you listen, consider this question:

What am I doing today to help build the marriage I want to still be enjoying years from now?

This conversation was originally recorded live over Zoom, so you may notice that the audio feels a little different from our regular episodes.

Listen with an open heart, reflect on your own marriage as you listen, and consider what building a lasting marriage looks like for you.

  • EP 228 \\ How Hidden Beliefs Drive Recurring Arguments and Disconnection in Marriage
    Oct 8 2026

    Hi friend!

Many couples find themselves returning to the same argument again and again. Although the subject may change, the feelings, reactions, and eventual disconnection often remain the same.

Sometimes, the problem isn't simply communication. Beneath the words, reactions, and disagreements, there may be a deeper belief, fear, expectation, or assumption shaping the way we respond to our spouse.

That is what we’re exploring today: how hidden beliefs can drive recurring arguments and disconnection in marriage—and what couples can begin doing about them.

In this episode of the Reconnected Marriage Podcast, I’m joined by Rev. Dr. David W. Pendergrass, an author, biblical specialist, pastoral counselor, and speaker with nearly thirty years of ministry experience.

Together, we explore what may be happening beneath the surface of recurring marriage conflict and why becoming aware of these deeper beliefs can be an important step toward healthier communication and deeper connection.

If you and your spouse keep having the same argument over and over, this conversation may help you look at the conflict from a different perspective—and begin asking a more important question:

“What might be happening beneath this argument?”

Listen in as we explore how becoming aware of the beliefs beneath our reactions can become a starting point for greater understanding, healthier communication, and reconnection in marriage.

  • Welcome to Reconnected Marriage: A New Chapter
    Sep 24 2026

You can share a home, a bed, and a busy life with your spouse, and still miss each other.

You still love your spouse. You just miss feeling close.

I'm David Haastrup, husband, dad of three, Christian marriage coach, and co-author of A Couple's First Ten Years. My wife, Ebun, and I have been married for more than sixteen years, and we've experienced firsthand what it takes to find our way back to each other when life, conflict, and responsibilities get in the way.

This new chapter of the podcast is about helping couples restore closeness in marriage, especially in the early years.

On this podcast, I’ll bring lessons from our own marriage, years of navigating conflict in healthcare leadership, and my work with couples, alongside biblical wisdom you can put into practice.

    We’ll explore questions like:

    • What do you say when a conversation starts turning into another exhausting argument?
    • How do you stop repeating the same fight?
    • What does grace look like when you’re angry?
    • How do you rebuild emotional and physical intimacy, even when life is full and you’re both exhausted?

Every episode comes back to restoring closeness with your spouse.

And you can begin without waiting for your spouse to change first. You can’t choose their response, but you can take responsibility for yours.

If you’re tired of growing apart and ready to grow closer—with more peace, harmony, and unity in your home—I invite you to join me on this journey.

Take your next courageous step toward the strong, connected marriage you desire.

    Welcome to Reconnected Marriage.

Restore closeness with your spouse… even in the early years.

  • EP 223 \\ Tired of Your Spouse? 4 Reasons It May Not Be Your Marriage (Part 1)
    Aug 27 2026

    Hi friend,

Have you ever found yourself feeling irritated by your spouse, even though they are a good person, a faithful spouse, and someone who has done nothing terribly wrong?

Maybe they reach for your hand and you pull away.

Maybe they ask, “What’s wrong?” and you simply say, “I’m tired.”

    But quietly, you start wondering:

“Am I tired—or am I tired of you?”

That can be a frightening question, especially when you know you have a good spouse.

But before you conclude that you married the wrong person or that your love is gone, perhaps there is another question worth asking:

What if this feeling is not only telling me something about my spouse? What if it is also revealing something happening within me?

In this episode, we begin a two-part conversation about something many married people experience but may feel ashamed to admit: feeling tired of a good spouse.

We’ll explore some of the reasons you may feel this way and how what is happening within you can sometimes affect how you experience your marriage.

So if you’ve been feeling distant, irritated, disconnected, or unsure about your feelings toward your spouse, this episode is for you.

    We pray this blesses you!
