Speakers reflected on the impact of PCEPA since its adoption, shared observations from anniversary events held in Ottawa, and outlined what further measures are needed to strengthen Canada’s response to sexual exploitation and trafficking.

The episode provided updates on policy outcomes, community initiatives, and the continuing challenges in preventing exploitation and supporting those affected.

Partners and families of sex buyers are often the unseen victims of commercial sexual exploitation. In this episode, Andrea Heinz reads her renowned peer-reviewed paper “A Mule for the Patriarchy: Waking Up to the Harm of Prostitution to Wives and Families,” sharing powerful insights on how women in the sex industry come to understand the betrayal trauma and financial abuse faced by buyers’ partners. Sabrinna joins the conversation to talk about her own efforts to warn partners about infidelity and to unpack the historical narratives that have justified prostitution while dividing women into “private” and “public property.”
