    Episode 223Bonkers - 16In January of 2026, ICU nurse Alex Pretti was killed in a violent confrontation with border patrol agents carrying out their duties in Minneapolis and corporate media pundit turned Youtuber Don Lemon allegedly participated in an anti-ICE protest inside of a church during a service. Pretti, who had been involved in violent encounters with ICE previously, became the new face and martyr of the political left, while others were quick to point out the violent bad-faith tactics of Minneapolis leadership, riot organizers, and Pretti himself. The country found itself in a feverish debate about ICE tactics in a political climate that overwhelming voted a more hardline approach to immigration enforcement. What power does the state have to push back against federal power? How do we handle radicalized protestors? Not to be outdone, Don Lemon filmed himself coordinating with professional protestors planning to disrupt a church service for ties one of the pastors has to ICE. Parishioners were subjected to loud, angry, profanity-laced chants from protestors and Youtubers alike while he weaseled himself from person to person in the name of "journalism", asking questions that basically amounted to "how do you feel about being an evil person who supports ICE?" The stunt shocked Christians everywhere in the nation, raising questions about the role of the church during civil unrest and where the limits are regarding the rights enshrined in the U.S. Constitution.     Episode 222Series: On the Mission Field - 26On this episode of the Removing Barriers Podcast, we are joined by Will Klassen, missionary to the Mexican Mennonites in Chihuahua, Mexico. Mexican Mennonites, with varying degrees of intensity, are generally isolated from other Mexicans around them, choosing only to fully engage other Mennonites. Will Klassen grew up in Canada in a religious Mennonite household devoid of the pure gospel, but the Lord saved him when he was 19 years old. Subsequently, the Lord called him to minister to the Mennonite people living in Mexico, most of whom descended from Mennonites that migrated there in the 1920s. He has been reaching them for Christ for the last 16 years. His Mennonite heritage makes it possible to reach them with the gospel of Christ where others may not even be able to get a foot in the door. Why are there so few books in that genre that can be recommended without reservation? Today on the Removing Barriers podcast, we interview a guest who at one point wondered the same thing and decided to do something about it. Bethany Klassen was born in Canada but grew up in Mexico after her parents obeyed God's call on their lives to serve the Mennonite population there as missionaries. An avid reader from her youth, Bethany always struggled to find books that exalted Christ and did not pollute the reader with questionable content or doctrine. She is now a talented author that has stepped into the Christian fiction space to create books with biblical (not just moral) values, encouraging stories, and the shameless exaltation of Christ. Her works include Sins of the Past, Tomorrow's Promise, and the newly published Seven Seconds. Listen in as we interview her about her upbringing as a missionary kid, her motivations and goals in writing Christian fiction, and the future endeavors God has in store for her.
