About this listen

Welcome to SpeakUrMND podcast

SpeakUrMND has evolved

SpeakUrMND was a place for me to share my family's experience living alongside MND, but what I've always known is that everyone's journey is unique, everyone has a different 'Why', everyone has a story to tell, I've been so inspired by the individuals I have met on this journey and would like them to SpeakTheirMND

What makes us get out of bed every morning to face MND head on.

What's been the biggest challenges to overcome.

What makes you laugh?, what makes you Cry?

It's MND Awareness but goes a little deeper, there will be laughter and a ton of tears I'm sure.

We will be chatting to some amazing individuals from the MND community, Warriors, Carers, Family & Friends, Fundraisers, Health and Social Care professionals, charities any one with a story to tell and knowledge to share,

I really hope you enjoy these episodes

Hopefully through these podcasts you will finish leaving uplifted, motivated, educated and an a better understanding of life alongside MND for individuals, carers and the wider MND community.

Thank you for listening, your support and your love.

The latest and last episode of season 1 of the speak your MND podcast with me @mummybarrow is a little different, its just me hosting, when we started the speak your MND Podcast there were a few goals that @mbarrow1 and I had in mind, I wanted to host the show using my eye gaze and cloned voice.

We wanted our guests to be from all walks of life from living with MND, Carers to Fundraisers, who all have a their own amazing stories to share.

We wanted a podcast for the community, brought to you by the community.

We also wanted music to accompany the podcast, composed by someone from the community, Thank you @aphplusplus 🫶

We wanted to share the highs, the lows, the good, the bad and the ugly, the wins, the losses and to try and serve up some advice and let you al know that your not alone on this journey, and thanks to the amazing guests I think we have achieved this.

But one of my personal goals was to host an episode alongside a fellow individual living alongside MND, using only our Eye Gaze devices, and I had the person in mind from day one.

Mark has been apart of my MND journey from the very start, he’s a source of knowledge and experience, he’s a good ear when i need to vent, he’s the reassurance I need when I’m making tough decisions and most importantly he’s always ready to take the piss out of me and remind me not to take life to seriously.

Mark has been on this journey for over 4 years, he’s had his ups and downs, but Mark alongside his wife Steph have huge hearts and work tirelessly to help other families on the same journey through the MNDefiance Trust.

And we will return in June 🫶

    Welcome to the Midnight Debrief

Steph and I are joined tonight by Joe DeBoise, a friend of Steph and Marks, a friendship brought together through MND.

I asked Steph, Let’s get a guest on, last episode before the break, and there was only one person Steph wanted on the podcast or Poddy-C as Joe calls it.

Joe has sacrificed his body and time to ensure the MNDefiance trust got up and running, and the challenges that Joe has undertaken to raise vital funds for the trust is truly remarkable.

Joe is an amazing artist, an ok surfer and an incredible friend.

We still find time to discuss all things caring, latest purchases and what’s for tea.

    I will leave it there….have a listen

    Catch you soon

This Week Anna and I chat with Stacey Kirkpatrick

Stacey lost her dear mum Gerry back in 2005 and as you will hear in this weeks episode its as still as raw and upsetting as it was 21 years ago.

In this weeks episode we talk about Stacey’s mums MND journey, loss, and the years that followed, with Stacey taking on numerous challenges raising awareness and funds for MND Scotland and the MNDA, we also talk about Stacey’s career as an estate agent to moving in to the charity sector.

In the past 12 month Stacey followed her heart after volunteering for the MNDA Manchester branch for a number of years, after leaving her role at another charity, Stacey now works for the MND Association as a area fundraiser, helping individuals on their own fundraising journey.

Thank you for listening, see you next time for the final episode of season one
