Elaine Napier joins us from the General Teaching Council for Scotland. Elaine shares her 'not for sale' values of kindness and honesty. Elaine also helps us to understand the importance of values for early career teachers and the importance of the professional values.

This episode is a very special collaboration with Jamie Thom of the Beyond Survival podcast, a weekly podcast to inspire and motivate teachers in the exciting first few years of their careers. Each week he asks an expert guest a question designed to support new teachers to be the best version of themselves in the classroom. Jamie is also the author of four books on education, his latest came out in February 2023 and is called 'Talking To Teenagers: A guide to skilful classroom communication.'

Jamie is passionate about supporting new teachers and kindly agreed to have his final episode of season 1 shared on our podcast. In this episode, his guest expert is our co-host Sarah and the central question is about finding balance.

We chat with Kevin about the relationship between values and wellbeing. He shares his journey from a cynic (his words) to an advocate of the importance of understanding our values. In this episode we are delighted to chat with Neil Hendry who is one of the first graduates from the Columba 1400 Head Teacher Leadership Academy. Neil is currently Head Teacher of Inverurie Community Campus in Aberdeenshire.

Neil shares his core values and how his relationship with values has evolved since he started teaching and now as a Head Teacher. He shares how values can be lived in the life of the school with our young people and our adults. We finish with some reflections on how value and care for the adults in our schools and in particular early career teachers.
