It's about people, hopelessness, rage, and the REAL solution that has very little to do with assault weapons or the NRA and very little to do with upping people's medication. Abby took exception to Greg's "asshat" short sighted view on the concept of Cultural Appropriation which motivated him to look deeper into it; enough so that he came away with a wider understanding and respect for the merits of the concept, even as he continued to take the same level of exception when it came to certain extreme individuals and their attempts to use the concept for nefarious purposes. We talk about this concept as it relates to music, fashion, movies, and more. We hammer down what we feel are bad actors appropriating or controlling culture that was essentially stolen or manipulated and we determine where we don't feel something is appropriation and is, in fact, simply admiration or influence.     Welcome Friends. Abby is not on an anti-podcast trip but she is on an antibiotic trip since she's been hit hard by yet another round of sickness as the plague cloud still hovers. However, we will still offer some thought provoking goodness this week. Today's show is made up of three unique individual segments, two of which are new entries into our "High Thoughts For Low Times" series and one which is from what Abby and I consider our "prototype" episode of the show. First, I talk about the time when I got all up in my feelings about Abby not loving what I considered an epic philosophical discussion and I tried to make heads or tails of the importance of pragmatic and philosophical points of view. Then we revisit a segment from our first solo recording (back when we were on the TEET show) in which Abby and I discuss the effects of human projection out there in society.     Welcome Friends, to a very special edition of the Sterner Stuff Brand Podcast. The Truth Seeker went back to his roots and met up for a Saturday evening meal with his parents Bill and Allison as well as his Uncle Paul and Aunt Jackie to discuss the nearly 3 decade story of the The Family Band. Bill and Paul grew up around music, with a father who was a banjo player, two older brothers who played accordion, and coming of age right after the explosion of rock and roll. They were inspired to set out on their own to make their mark and created a group called New Wind, a band which stood the test of time and lasted nearly 30 years as a regularly booked act from Pipersville to Phoenixville, from Reading to Doylestown, from the Dutch Cottage to Micky's Mouse; New Wind performed many gigs and had many interesting experiences. From riots involving a brawling Elvis impersonator to being escorted out of a wedding when the raucous crowd decided they wanted to beat up the band, there is no shortage of intriguing tales to be told. In between, we discuss a little family history, romance, and thoughts about music. Hang out with us friends, as we discuss our reality...and please enjoy this very special show.
