  • Ajanaé the Conceptual Artist, Poet and Theologian

    On Episode 2 of T.H.A.T. Curator Connects, we feature Ajanaé Dawkins, a poet, conceptual artist, curator and theologian.


    She is someone who works through poetry, visual art, performance, and audio to explore the politics of faith, grief, and intimate relationships between Black women. Her exhibition, No One Teaches Us How To Be Daughters, debuted at Urban Arts Space in 2024. She was also the Taft Museum’s 2022 Duncanson Artist in Residence and Ohio State University’s 2024 UAS Community Artist in Residence. Ajanaé co-hosts the VS Podcast with Brittany Rogers at the Poetry Foundation.


    Ajanaé has released her Chapbook, Blood-Flex, the winner of New Delta Review’s 13th Annual Chapbook Competition.

    She plans to continue delving into the 1990s disappearance of her great aunt and is developing a theology space for artists on the margins of their faith to explore both spirituality and creation.

    The Creative Legacy Project invites black natives to submit a photo that has shaped their creative journey through memory, archival stories and imagination.
