In this episode of the Take Me Out to the Ball Game Foundation Podcast, Rich Genovese is joined by John Delia and Matt Dowd for a look at the foundation’s continuing work to support children and families throughout Long Island. From winter clothing and food pantry donations to the foundation’s annual Thanksgiving turkey and ham drive, the conversation highlights how needs within local communities continue to grow, and how volunteers, donors, businesses, and community organizations can make a meaningful difference.
Special guest Adrienne Lopresti, Executive Director of YES Community Counseling Center, joins the conversation to discuss the organization’s work with children, individuals, and families through counseling, prevention programs, food assistance, youth services, and other community-based programs. She also explains why partnerships with organizations like Take Me Out to the Ball Game are so important, especially as the demand for services increases while funding remains uncertain.
The episode also shares some powerful examples of what community support can accomplish, including providing families with food, winter coats, recreational experiences, holiday celebrations, and even something as simple as a $5 meal. One particularly moving story shows how donated McDonald's gift cards helped a mother give her young son a birthday celebration that otherwise wouldn't have happened.
For more than 20 years, the foundation has continued to grow from a small group of friends simply trying to help into an organization serving communities across Long Island. Their mission remains simple: Making a difference one child at a time.
