Though Edmond, a 23-year-old engineer, was diagnosed with dyslexia at a young age, his story stems from overcoming its hardships and finding joy in simple reading over the past few years. Dyslexia was challenging, and mostly manifested in his difficulty with studying, yet during high school, he decided not to use his condition as an excuse to escape hardship and to actively partake in facing his challenges. He redirected time and energy into hobbies such as volleyball and exploring new places, and still manages to engage himself in books about self-help, finance, and geopolitics. His family played a vital role in supporting and accepting Edmond by treating him as an independent individual. • Herman's Story on Professional football and Performance Anxiety - TeenMindsUnlocked x Mindserum 1st Episode
    Sep 9 2025

Herman’s story is about ambition, sacrifice, and steadfast focus. From playing football at the age of 10 to being in his 4th year as a professional player, he finds it very important to find a balance between social life and academics, especially juggling with the IB curriculum during his pivotal years of football training. Yet, this comes with sacrifices. Despite inevitable comparisons with peers, with determination, and a goal driven mindset, he strives to focus on himself and his journey with football, and plays to not please others but himself. Herman suggests that once we have set a goal for ourselves, it is best to walk the path down and not to be easily distracted by external environments/stimuli. He also thinks that communication with parents and schools is key to maintaining support for the schedule of professional student athletes, such as the transparency from students themselves and understanding, as well as empathy from parents and schools. Thank you, Herman, for sharing his ups and downs, and the journey that he took to reach your goals step by step with us. I hope he continues to achieve new heights, inspiring others with his dedication and passion.
