We talk through the lightning delays, the scramble to keep players, volunteers, and spectators safe, and the incredible way the local disc golf community stepped up at every turn. From emergency shuttles and last-minute spotters to unforgettable moments like a moose wandering near the fairway, a chaotic car alarm during live play, and the emotional energy of finishing a weather-filled round at dusk on the mountain, this event delivered one wild story after another.

    We also break down the dramatic finishes, including Lisa Fajkus charging to the FP40 title and Silva Saarinen’s major win after a tense final-day battle with Ohn Scoggins. Down in the valley, Dragonfly delivered its own fireworks with a sudden-death playoff in FA1 and a memorable championship moment.     In this episode, Nick sits down with Scott, Sean, and Brodie to start unpacking our experience at the 2026 US Women’s Disc Golf Championship. We all came into the conversation from different roles on the local organizing team, and what stood out most was just how huge an effort it took to bring the event to life. From course prep at Brighton, Dragonfly, Roots, and Creekside to opening ceremonies, volunteer coordination, media, merch, and spectator logistics, this week was powered by an incredible community that showed up with energy, creativity, and heart. More than anything, we kept coming back to the same feeling: we actually did it, and we did it together.

    We also reflected on some of the biggest moments from the first half of tournament week, including the emotional opening ceremonies, Jennifer Allen’s Hall of Fame recognition, the arrival of top players in Utah, and the wild reality of weather delays at Brighton. Even with lightning, shifting schedules, and nonstop pivots, the vibe never broke. Volunteers, spectators, staff, and players all kept rising to the moment, and Friday in particular became this perfect mix of pressure, relief, celebration, and pride. This first recap is really about the people behind the event and the community that made a major championship in Utah feel truly special.

    In this episode, I sit down with course designer Chaz Critchfield to explore the origin, evolution, and future of the Brighton disc golf course—host venue for the upcoming United States Women’s Disc Golf Championship (USWDGC). Chaz shares how a spur-of-the-moment email after a Big Glade pop-up sparked Brighton’s transformation from a modest nine-hole into a championship-caliber mountain course at 9,400 feet. We dig into the design philosophy behind using Brighton’s rare flat “bowl” terrain to create true mountain golf without endless climbs, the community-powered work that installed pads, moved baskets, and even built snowboard-and-ski benches, and how candid feedback from filmed events drove major layout improvements in 2023–2024.

    We preview the USWDGC layout, including the new finishing hole that merges Crest 8 and 9 into a risk-reward par four visible from the base, and discuss the unique logistics of building a major on a ski resort: rebar for OB in rocky ground, lift and access challenges, and setting up a mountainside festival atmosphere at the top with food, music, and spectator zones. Chaz outlines upcoming volunteer workdays, opening targets near Father’s Day, and why Brighton is primed for world-class coverage on Jomez and live broadcasts.
