What if real social change doesn't begin with giving people answers—but with giving them the space to ask better questions?

In this episode, we speak with Dr. Krishna Udayasankar - author, academic, social change advocate, and the founder and CEO of the Kshetra Foundation for Dialogue.

Krishna's journey is anything but ordinary. Raised across different parts of India and shaped by experiences in Zambia, Singapore and Australia, she learned early that the world is far bigger than the perspective we experience from our own little corner of it. That realization became a powerful thread running through her life.

From earning a PhD and working as a professor, to becoming an author of around 11 books, Krishna has explored questions of identity, diversity, social inclusion and the many perspectives that shape how we understand one another. But perhaps the most fascinating part of her journey is what happened when she returned to India just before the COVID lockdown.

Looking out from her apartment at a community struggling with something as fundamental as access to drinking water, she began thinking differently about social problems. What if the issue isn't always a lack of resources? What if the resources already exist—but the connections, access and capacity needed to use them effectively are missing? That question eventually became the seed for her work in dialogue and community-driven change.

In this conversation, we explore why lasting social change cannot simply be about intervening and "fixing" problems. We talk about empowering communities to identify and solve their own challenges, why resource optimization matters, why social change is about changing systems rather than performing isolated acts of charity - and why every one of us may have far more potential to create change than we realize.

And along the way, we also discover the person behind the work: the author, the passionate learner, the aspiring Carnatic musician, and the proud "mother of Huskies."

This is a conversation about perspective, privilege, curiosity, dialogue, community and the courage to create change - not for people, but with people.

Let's get started.
