About this listen

A podcast about hunting for history, lost treasure and ordinary people discovering extraordinary objects.

When it comes to unearthing history George Ridgway and Paul Jacobs have the pedigree. Well, George does.

He discovered Britain's largest Claudian hoard stuffed full of gold and silver Iron Age and Roman coins.

Paul found some rusty nails and a podcasting buddy.

Join them as they bomb around the Suffolk countryside in a classic Land Rover, unravelling the secrets of the landscape and unearthing the history beneath their feet.

But this is more than just treasure hunting.

It’s a podcast about friendship and finding peace in the landscape, about understanding our place in time, about patience, optimism, and the power of a pint after a day in our gorgeous countryside.

But if you want a simple way to describe it: it's 2 mates, passionate about history, bombing around in a battered old Landy, trying to understand the landscape they love.

THE LAND ROVERS: A HISTORY HUNTING PODCAST
Episode 28. Back to the Bronze Age

An old map, and shadowy echos of shapes in a new field that runs down to an ancient stream in one direction and a major Roman road in the other. What’s not to love?

Well - the wind, the mud, and the temperature to be honest. But they say perseverance is the secret to all triumphs - and it certainly reveals a few secrets in this episode…

THE LAND ROVERS: A HISTORY HUNTING PODCAST
Episode 27. No Place Like Rome

Getting together for the first time in 2026 is pretty epic for George and Paul - they've got some new land and a new land owner to manage, and it's someone quite close to home... Literally.

It’s George, who has just bought a house close to an amazing Roman site excavated by Basil Brown in 1949.

The signs are good, but what will they uncover in George's back garden?
