THE LAND ROVERS: A HISTORY HUNTING PODCAST
Episode 25. Christmas with the Saxons.

In this first Christmas special the boys hit some new land they’ve got permission for - and it doesn’t get any more Christmassy.

Red House Christmas tree farm sits in the heart of an ancient landscape. Saxon ship burials, early medieval villages, and lost windmills dot the landscape, but when they explore a mystery mound they find something totally unexpected, moving and a little more modern.

THE LAND ROVERS: A HISTORY HUNTING PODCAST
Episode 24. Part 2Edge of Empire

This is the second part of our special episode in Holland, meeting and detecting with two amazing guys who discovered the Bunnik hoard.

Autumn 2023. The ancient Roman limes.

Gert-Jan and Reinier were detecting a field they’d had their eyes on for quite some time - with good reason.

One stater became two, became handfuls and handfuls of Roman aurei, denarii, and intriguingly, British Iron-Age staters of Cunobelin. It all sounded a bit familiar so we thought we better make a trip over to Holland to visit them and hear the incredible story.

THANKYOU for being amazing hosts Gert-Jan and Reinier.

And THANKYOU Anton - the archaeologist who helped unearth the hoard.

THE LAND ROVERS: A HISTORY HUNTING PODCAST
    Episode 22. Bonjour Napoleon.

When you find something cool deep in the mud you’re not just discovering the lost item itself, you’re unearthing stories and mysteries. And then, occasionally, you dig up memories as well.

When the boys hit a field that George hasn’t been to since discovering a second hoard of Roman silver, buried by an Iron Age Briton in response to the Roman invasion, all three possibilities combine.

And, despite discovering several finds of a lifetime in this very field, for George, it’s an unassuming find that suddenly brings it all flooding back.

THE LAND ROVERS: A HISTORY HUNTING PODCAST
    Episode 20. Weaver's Treasure

George takes Paul to a secret spot in the Fynn Valley where, in 1938, a huge hoard of late Roman coins was unearthed, treasure buried at the very moment the Empire was collapsing into chaos.

The glorious River Fynn is a picture-postcard part of the Suffolk landscape, but also hides dark and mysterious past — one marked by ancient mutilations and whispered legends.

So when the opportunity arises to investigate a freshly dredged stretch of the river, the boys can’t resist. What begins as a simple search for history soon takes a chilling turn — revealing something ghostly, unexpected, and utterly unique beneath the surface.

Something weird is happening in a field in Suffolk.

6 years ago George unearthed The Helmingham Hoard - the largest Claudian era hoard of gold and silver coins ever discovered.

Then, almost to the day, 5 years later, the boys recorded episode 1 and discovered another gold stater.

And then, another year later, George discovers yet more Iron Age gold. Same day, same field.

This calls for a very special anniversary episode of your favourite podcast about hunting for history...

With never-before-heard stories, fresh revelations, and plenty of laughs along the way — this golden anniversary episode is one for the ages.
