On this episode of The Life of Phys Podcast, I’m joined by photographer, videographer, and YouTuber Brandon Talbot a creator who has been openly sharing his photography journey for years while, in his own words, making “incredibly adequate videos for the internet.”
Before photography, Brandon was a former professional volleyball player, NASM Master Trainer, and jiu-jitsu competitor and he brings that same growth mindset, discipline, and long-term thinking into his creative practice. His enthusiasm for learning and improving is infectious.
Brandon is also open about being one of the millions of people living with depression, and in this conversation we talk honestly and responsibly about creativity, identity, consistency, and what it means to keep building even when things feel heavy.
In this episode, we discuss:
- Transitioning from athletics to a creative life
- Developing a growth mindset in photography
- Falling in love with prints and physical media
- Building long-term projects instead of chasing quick wins
- Discipline, consistency, and showing up for the work
This is a conversation about patience, persistence, and learning to play the long game, both in art and in life.
