  • Ep. 7 Blessed Are Those Who Mourn - Matthew 5:4 - January 18th, 2026
    Feb 21 2026

In this message from Matthew 5:4, we continue walking through the Beatitudes: “Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.”

After briefly revisiting verses 1–3, we turn to the story of Jacob and Joseph. When Joseph’s brothers deceived their father into believing Joseph was dead, Jacob’s grief was immediate, visible, and overwhelming. He tore his clothes and mourned for many days. Deep, undeniable distress that everyone could see.

What does that kind of mourning have to do with Jesus’ words in Matthew 5?

We also reflect on Psalm 32 and the weight of unconfessed sin. The heaviness David described when he kept silent, and the relief that came with confession and forgiveness. There is a kind of mourning that leads to life. Godly sorrow is not wasted; it leads to restoration.

Just as Joseph was eventually restored to his father and Jacob rejoiced to receive him, we are invited to return to our Heavenly Father. When we come honestly, when we mourn rightly, He receives us with joy.

Blessed are those who mourn… because true comfort comes from the Father.
