  • Ep. 120 Middle-Aged Golfers, Peak Confusion
    Apr 22 2026

    Send us Fan Mail

Steve and Andy are back with something rare… their own golf to talk about—and plenty of it.

This episode is a deep dive into the messy middle of improvement. The kind where things are clearly getting better… but not quite showing up on the scorecard yet.

Steve shares a solid medal round built on consistency (no doubles), better putting, and a breakthrough with the driver—thanks to a simple grip adjustment that changed everything. It’s the clearest “path forward” he’s seen in a while… even if the short game still has other ideas.

Andy’s game is trending too, with elite ball striking showing up in patches—including one of the best long iron shots he’s hit in years. But when the pressure dial turned up, so did an old enemy: the snap hook.

The result? A round that proves the game is there… just not fully under control yet.

    There’s also:

    • A near-miss in a two-ball Ambrose (decided by a lip-out… of course)
    • A reminder that good golf doesn’t always mean low scores
    • Honest reflections on technical flaws vs mental performance
    • And a look ahead to Steve’s senior amateur debut at Duntry

This is golf improvement in real time—progress, frustration, and just enough hope to keep you coming back.

  • Ep. 119 Winning Is Hard (Even for Rory McIlroy). The 2026 Masters Review
    Apr 16 2026

    Send us Fan Mail

The 2026 Masters is done—and another page of the history books has been written.

For years, the question was whether Rory McIlroy would ever win a green jacket. Now? He’s gone back-to-back and forced his way into one of the most exclusive clubs in golf history.

Steve and Andy break down what’s changed—not just in Rory’s game, but in his mindset. From a dominant opening 36 holes to a shaky weekend that nearly unraveled, this wasn’t a cruise. It was a grind. And that might be the biggest shift of all.

There’s a deeper conversation here: winning majors isn’t about playing perfect golf—it’s about surviving the moments when you don’t.

    The guys also dive into:

    • Why Rory’s evolution might lead to even more majors
    • The shot (and the caddie decision) that defined the tournament
    • Justin Rose’s turning point—and how quickly momentum can slip when your mind gets ahead of your game
    • The brutal reality of pressure at Augusta
    • And the uncomfortable truth: even the best players in the world aren’t “on” for 72 holes

Plus, a look at the next wave:

    • Are players like Cam Young and Sam Burns ready to break through?
    • And how close are we to the next major champion emerging?

This episode isn’t just about who won—it’s about what it actually takes to win.

  • Ep. 118 Golf's Fine Line Between Form and Frustration
    Apr 8 2026

    Send us Fan Mail

It’s Masters Week, so naturally the conversation starts with big names, predictions… and that quiet feeling that maybe the game isn’t too far away.

The boys start with the March Yearly Championship results, a tightly packed leaderboard, and another appearance from the Dice of Truth that raises just enough questions to keep things interesting.

But the heart of the episode is Steve’s latest competition round.

And it’s one of those rounds that’s hard to pin down.

At times, it looks like things are really starting to click.
The ball striking is solid, the patterns are better, and there are moments where a good score feels within reach.

But golf being golf… it doesn’t quite unfold that simply.

A few key moments shift momentum, and suddenly the round becomes something else—less about scoring, and more about understanding where the game actually sits.

    That’s where Andy leans in.

Because while Steve can feel the progress, the scorecard tells a slightly different story. And somewhere in between those two things is where the real insight lives.

There are still plenty of highlights along the way, including a standout performance from Pilgrim Benny Walker, and a few moments that remind you why we keep coming back to this game.

By the end, one thing is clear:

The game is moving in the right direction…
it’s just not quite all showing up at the same time yet.

And that might be the most relatable place in golf.

  • Ep. 117 From ICU to the 18th Green
    Mar 31 2026

    Send us Fan Mail

This week is bigger than golf.

Steve shares a deeply personal update about his son’s recent health crisis and new diagnosis, how quickly life can flip, and the emotional rollercoaster of navigating hospitals, uncertainty, and a whole new normal. It’s a raw reminder that golf matters — but family matters more.

From there, the boys turn back to the fairways.

Andy breaks down his competitive round:

    • A rollercoaster 77 (35 points)
    • Two birdies, two doubles, and plenty of lessons
    • A big putting mindset shift — moving from mechanical focus to outcome-based intent
    • Why a change in focus unlocked his best strokes on the greens in ages

    The conversation also dives into:

    • GPS yardage drama and why rangefinders still matter
    • A look ahead to the Duntry Seniors
    • Why expectations, headspace and enjoyment matter more than ever
    • The value of changing your putting focus — even if just for a round

This one is part life perspective, part performance reflection, and part honest, relatable golf chat.

  • Ep. 116 The Pilgrims Guide to Training Aids
    Mar 16 2026

    Send us Fan Mail

This week on The Missing Links Golf Show, Steve and Andy kick things off with the February results of the Missing Links Yearly Championship, including a dramatic virtual playoff and another strong month of scoring from the Pilgrims.

There’s also an unforgettable story from the world of golf officiating — featuring a hamstring injury sustained while refereeing the NSW Senior Amateur. Proof that golf can still be a dangerous sport!

Then the episode dives into a deep discussion on golf training aids. After testing a wide range of gadgets over the years, Steve and Andy break down what they actually use in their practice — and what might not be worth your money.

    They cover:

    • Simple fundamentals like alignment rods and grip trainers
    • Practice tools including divot boards, foot spray, and putting mirrors
    • Swing aids designed to improve connection and swing plane
    • The benefits of launch monitors and shot tracking systems
    • Apps like Tour Tempo and Golf Swing Replay
    • And one training aid that might be the worst purchase ever made

If you’ve ever wondered which training aids actually help your game — and which ones are just clever marketing — this episode is packed with insights.

  • Ep. 115 Fix the Plane, Fix the Game
    Mar 2 2026

    Send us Fan Mail

The boys are back with a full Duntryleague competition debrief — and this one had everything.

    • A 13-point front nine
    • A double after a flushed punch through a tree tunnel
    • A shank...
    • And then… seven straight pars a few days later

Steve takes us inside a rollercoaster Stableford round at Duntryleague in Orange, including one of the best (and one of the worst) shots of his golfing life. But the real breakthrough came afterwards in the High Performance Centre.

After struggling with a two-way miss off the tee, video revealed the culprit:
👉 A takeaway getting whipped too far inside
    👉 A flat backswing
👉 A steep throw in transition

One small swing-plane fix later… fairways found and seven consecutive pars.

    The episode dives into:

    • Why driver confidence disappears so quickly
    • The importance of regular video check-ups
    • How swing plane flaws can affect both driver AND wedges
    • Why consistency beats flashes of brilliance
    • Prep for the Duntry Seniors
    • A new training aid incoming (TRS Slider)

There’s promise in the game. Now it’s about making it repeatable.

    Bring on the Duntry Seniors.

  • Ep. 114 Pain Free and Dangerous!
    Feb 24 2026

    Send us Fan Mail

    Andy is back.

After months of landscaping, wrist pain, and limited golf, Episode 114 marks his return to competitive play — and it delivers.

    In this episode:

    • A pain-free 18 holes (thanks to a simple pre-round tweak)
    • A 79 in the first comp round of the year
    • No snap hooks
    • No doubles
    • Increased clubhead speed without extra effort
    • A deeper understanding of ground forces and weight transition

Andy shares how studying concepts from Titleist Performance Institute and applying ideas often seen in players like Justin Thomas has reshaped his swing — particularly around pressure shift and using the lead side properly.

    The result?

    • A 5% jump in clubhead speed
    • Multiple flushed irons (including a “three-quarter” 7-iron that went 154m…)
    • Two makeable birdie chances late
    • A gritty up-and-down on 18 to break 80

It wasn’t perfect. There were sloppy bogeys. Mental lapses. A few “how did that go 181 metres?” moments.

    But it feels close.

    Really close.

    This episode dives into:

    • Why pain-free golf is a massive win
    • How tension creeps in when a good score is building
    • The importance of getting off “the train”
    • Why no doubles is a bigger stat than you think
    • And why 2026 might be shaping up very nicely

    Momentum is building.

The swing is holding up under pressure.

And the snap hook might finally be on notice.

  • Ep. 113 Rockstar Mindset: What Ed Sheeran Taught Us About Golf
    Feb 16 2026

    Send us Fan Mail

This week Pilgrims, we swap scorecards for stadium lights.

After both catching Ed Sheeran live in Sydney (70,000 strong… twice), Steve and Andy ask a simple question:

What can a global superstar teach two middle-aged golfers chasing sporting glory?

    Turns out… a lot.

In this unexpected but surprisingly powerful episode, we unpack:

    • 🎯 Growth Mindset in Action – From playing pubs to selling out stadiums, Ed’s long-game perseverance is the blueprint for golf development.
    • 🛠️ Loving the Grind – Why enjoying practice (not just performance) is the real secret sauce.
    • 🎵 Tempo & Rhythm – What Ed’s looping precision under pressure teaches us about staying smooth in the golf swing.
    • 🧠 Thinking Out Loud – Using verbal commitment in your pre-shot routine to sharpen clarity and intent.
    • 🤝 Collaboration & Team – Even solo artists need support. So do golfers.
    • 📈 Providing Value – Why deliberate practice is how you “love yourself” in performance.
    • Shot Shape Simplicity – Fall in love with the "shape of you" (well, your shot shape at least) and build confidence around it.
    • 🔥 Managing “Bad Habits” – Because we’ve all had those rounds.

Plus… the unbelievable (and apparently true) story of the time Ed accidentally cracked Justin Bieber in the face with a golf club. Yes. That happened.

No golf was played this week — but plenty was learned.

If you’re serious about improvement, this episode is a reminder:

Success isn’t built on the big stage.
It’s built in the quiet hours when no one’s watching.

    Rock out, Pilgrims. 🎸⛳
