Dealing with grief is not easy. What do you do when a loved one dies? David, a native of Long Beach, is a seasoned professional with nearly two decades of experience in the non-profit sector.

Over the years, he has dedicated his efforts to various causes, including after-school programs, supporting Iraq/Afghanistan War Veterans, and combating hunger. Currently, David serves as the Executive Director of New Hope Grief Support Community.

The organization's mission is to bring hope and healing into the lives of bereaved adults, children, and families through connection and support.

David's personal connection to grief stems from the loss of his beloved mother. This experience led him to seek solace at New Hope, where he joined a grief support group and embarked on a personal journey towards healing.

Through this process, he redefined his life without his mom. Inspired by New Hope's mission, David became actively involved as a volunteer camp counselor, providing support to school-age children navigating the challenges of loss. These volunteer efforts catalyzed David's continued involvement with New Hope. His firsthand experiences with grief, coupled with his profound compassion for those dealing with loss, uniquely position David to understand and address the diverse needs of the grieving community. Through his dedication, New Hope continues to be a beacon of support, fostering hope and healing for those in the midst of grief.

Cirene is a wife, mother & mental health advocate. Through her own journey of healing and growing from different life experiences, Cirene knew she wanted to help others find mental, emotional, and spiritual healing as well.

After pursuing a Master's degree in Pastoral Counseling, Cirene has served in this role for almost two years as one of the counselors at Breath of Life Foundation.

More recently Cirene became a Board Certified Mental Health Coach and is excited to continue helping others through coaching and helping the local church by providing pastoral counseling resources.

Mary E. White, answered a calling to help victims of human trafficking. Once she was aware of this horrible injustice, she took to action!

As a result, she put in place Gems Uncovered signifying that no matter the circumstance or situation that each person is a "gem" and her job was to organize a nonprofit to provide needed services for prevention and aftercare by helping each victim or survivor uncover their divine gem qualities within.

Gems Uncovered was established as a nonprofit established in July 2011 and over the years, she has met so many victims' with feelings of lives shattered by the brutal truth of sex exploitation. By helping countless people, and seeing there were so many more to help, she grew in her determination to provide additional services and support networks. She has since grown her leadership team, partners, and volunteers to take action and fight against Human Trafficking. Did you know the average human trafficked victims are between the ages of 12 to 17? With a life span of no more than seven years because many are found dead from attacks, abuse, HIV, and other cruel deaths.

Because of this, Gems Uncovered has a passionate focus on prevention and aftercare for all victims and it is with this determination they help save and provide support to about 50 victims of sexual exploitation and prostitution each year.

What makes Gems Uncovered a precious resource is their vigilance to be out in the streets of Long Beach, Compton and Los Angeles every Friday night from 10 p.m. to midnight with their street outreach team. Come rain or shine, this team of volunteers consistently reaches out to the young girls, boys, men and women prostituting on the street with resources and prayers. It is on these Friday nights that they let each individual know they are not alone.
