Monkey hunters accidentally shoot tranquilizer into woman who reported rogue ape   They missed the target by a few million years of evolution. A monkey hunting mission backfired spectacularly after a bumbling gunman accidentally shot a woman with a tranquilizer dart — knocking her out for an hour. The comedy of errors was set in motion after reports surfaced of a Japanese macaque — also known as a snow monkey — lurking near Fujikawa Station in Fuji City, Shizuoka Prefecture, SoraNews24 reported. In response, the city hall dispatched three municipal employees and one simian-hunting specialist equipped with tranquilizer rifles to apprehend the rogue ape. Unfortunately, their monkey hunting mission turned catastrophic after one of the gunmen accidentally shot a woman they were interviewing about the fugitive primate. Reports state that the hunters were taping their rifles to avoid air escaping, whereupon one of the bozos accidentally discharged their weapon. As a result, the hapless woman was struck in the arm with a dart — which was reportedly packed with enough sedative to subdue a 33-pound money — putting her out like a light. Following the ludicrous misfire, the victim was rushed to the hospital, where she awoke an hour later, Sora reported. However, it took another full hour before the patient was lucid enough to speak coherently. The Fuji government has since apologized to the woman and has pledged an investigation and policy review to avoid another such disaster. Unfortunately — albeit perhaps unsurprisingly — the problem macaque remains at large.     Philly EMT Kevin Pressley charged with exposing and photographing ‘semi-conscious’ woman’s breasts   Pennsylvania police announced on Monday that an EMT is facing charges after allegedly exposing a “semi-conscious” woman under his care in the back of an ambulance and snapping photos of her breasts.  Kevin Hakeem Pressley, 24, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was taken into custody on Saturday and is charged with indecent assault, invasion of privacy and related charges.  The Brookhaven Borough Police Department said it initiated an investigation Friday into an alleged assault that occurred the day prior.  The victim reported that she was being treated at a medical facility in Brookhaven when she became “semi-conscious.” An ambulance arrived, and during transport, Pressley — while caring for the victim in the back of the ambulance — reportedly exposed the woman’s breasts and took photos of her while she was in a “semi-conscious state.” Pressley was employed as an EMT by the Brookhavan Fire Company Ambulance at the time of the alleged incident. He has since been arraigned, and his bail is set at $100,000 cash.      Indian teen dies after being set on fire by alleged stalker she rejected   A teenage girl in India has died after she was set on fire by an alleged stalker — who became irate when she rejected his marriage proposal. Ankita Singh, 19, was asleep in her bed near an open window around 4 a.m. August 23 when a man doused her body in gasoline and tossed a lit match, the BBC Hindi reported. Singh was rushed to the hospital with severe burns but died Sunday as a result of the heinous attack. Before she died from her injuries, Singh identified the man as Shahrukh Hussain, telling authorities he had been following her and harassing her, the outlet said. The teen described how Hussain called her about 8 p.m. the night before and “told me that he would kill me if I did not talk to him.”   “I informed my father about the threat after which he assured me that he would talk to the man’s family on Tuesday,” she told cops, according to the Mirror. She then described waking up to “a sensation of pain on my back” and “could smell something burning.” “I found [Hussain] running away when I opened my eyes,” she told authorities. Two videos of Singh in the hospital have since gone viral online, causing uproar in India. She suffered burns to 45% of her body. The teen’s father, Sanjeev Singh, confirmed that Hussain lived in their neighborhood. He said the man’s unwanted attention sometimes forced his daughter to miss school. “Shahrukh used to tell her— ‘Marry me, accept Islam, else I will make your life hell,’ ” he told Swarajya magazine. “He kept on forcing my daughter to marry and convert for months. He was a one-sided lover, a stalker.” Police arrested Hussain and an accomplice last week. Both men are reportedly facing murder charges.  Singh’s death sparked outrage across Hindu-majority Jharkhand.  Amber Lakra, the police superintendent of Dumka, told the BBC that while the crime is not considered religious in nature, “[police] are being especially vigilant as the boy and girl belong to different religions.” In the days following Singh’s death, several politicians took to social media to express their disgust at Hussain’s actions. “After the crafty meted ...

Florida man arrested for trying to buy 8-year-old girl for $100,000   A Florida sex offender was arrested after he allegedly tried to “purchase” an 8-year-old girl for $100,000 at a grocery store, police said. Hellmuth Kolb, 85, approached the child’s mom at a Winn Dixie in Port Orange Thursday and made the indecent proposal, according to the Port Orange Police Department. Kolb was on probation and was banned from having contact with children after trying to buy a different child in Walmart in 2018, according to WESH-TV. Lauren Benning told the station she thought Kolb was just a lonely old man when he approached her and her daughter. “He just came up and he started making comments about how pretty she was and how good her dancing was and how he could never have children and he wanted children,” Benning reportedly said. But the interaction soon took a dark turn, Benning told the station. “Approached me in the parking lot. Actually chased me down in the parking lot and said ‘hey, I want to make a deal with you.’ I’d like to buy her for $100,000. I was in complete shock.” “He needs to be locked up and not allowed to be around our children,” she reportedly said.     Florida man arrested for calling sex worker on his honeymoon   A Florida man was arrested on his honeymoon after he answered an ad for a prostitute, according to a local report. Paul Turovsky, 34, left his new bride sleeping in their hotel room in Tampa and went out to meet a prostitute he had connected with online, authorities said. When the self-employed businessman arrived at the Hyatt Hotel, he was placed in handcuffs, caught up in a sting operation by local police to crackdown on sex trafficking. “The only question here was, as a wedding guest, was it too late to get the gifts that they gave returned back to them,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister, adding that Turovsky was one of 176 men arrested in the sting operation.     A Catholic charity hired a man to simulate a mass shooting at their building, complete with actors covered in blood. The drill ended with his arrest.   A Nebraska man hired by a local charity to simulate a mass shooting has been charged with making terroristic threats. The Omaha World-Herald reported that John Channels was advised by Catholic Charities, an organization with branches across the US, to make the drill realistic — which he did, complete with paid actors covered in blood. Unfortunately, the simulation caused chaos among employees who thought the shooting was real. The news outlet reported that bloodied actors laid in hallways throughout the office building. One employee told the World-Herald she heard shots behind her and jumped off a retaining wall to try and hide in a dumpster. The incident, which occurred on May 19, 2022, began with Channels firing at a conference room window of the office building in which employees happened to be gathered, according to the news outlet. One elderly employee told police she thought she was going to die. "This is it," she told the World-Herald. Channels' lawyer, Erin Wetzel, told the publication that Catholic Charities requested the 27-year-old conduct the drill in that specific manner. "It's important to note that several of (the directors) went along with it, and while it was happening, they were not informing employees of what was going on, even as they were asking," Wetzel said. Omaha Catholic Charities' executive director, Denise Bartels, said in a statement that the group hired Channels "based upon recommendations from respected sources, and he clearly misrepresented himself and his qualifications." Channels' LinkedIn page states he's a police officer for the Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska and that he's also the CEO of a security firm called Exousia Protection Agency. Neither organization responded to Insider's requests for comment. The Daily Beast reported law enforcement said they weren't alerted to the drill and responded as if it were an active crime scene. Don Kleine, the attorney for Douglas County told the news outlet that "police came, they didn't know this was happening. They thought it was a real active shooter. There were people calling 911." Local news station KMTV reported that Channels identified himself to police as an Offutt Civilian Police Officer. On Tuesday, Channels was arrested and charged with five counts of making terroristic threats and one weapons count, according to the World-Herald. This isn't Channels' only run-in with the law. In May, he was arrested and charged with three felonies which included first-degree sexual assault of a child, visual depiction of sexually explicit conduct of a child, and attempted intentional child abuse. It's unclear if the charity knew of his prior charges. Catholic Charities, Erin Wetzel, the Douglas County Attorney's Office, and the Omaha police department did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.         Australian soccer club ...

Nightclub bans ‘staring’ without ‘verbal consent’ in new ‘woke’ policy   The days of checking someone out at a club are over. An Australia nightclub said it will remove people who are caught staring at someone without that person’s consent. Club 77 in Sydney included unwanted attention from strangers in its updated “zero-tolerance policy” on harassment. The venue posted the woke update on its Instagram account, saying the club is “not a place to come to if your sole purpose is to ‘pick up.’ ” “As a nightclub, we encourage you to interact with strangers, however any engagement MUST begin with verbal consent,” the statement read. “This also applies if you are, for example, staring at someone from afar.” The club has hired designated “safety officers” — who will be wearing a pink hi-visibility vest — to handle complaints and concerns. “If we receive reports of any behavior that has made someone feel uncomfortable, the reported individual will be removed from the venue and the police will be called,” the statement said. Club 77 said in the statement it will “encourage feedback” — which patrons were quick to provide, with comments including “RIP to social interaction” and “not allowed to look at people now.”       Florida man on trial for attempting to murder, rape ex-wife axes lawyers and cross-examines her A Florida man on trial for attempted murder abruptly axed his lawyers Wednesday so he could personally cross-examine the alleged victim — his ex-wife. Trevor Summers, 45, is accused of sneaking into the home of his then estranged spouse, Alisa Mathewson, in March 2017 to carry out a murder-suicide plot. Prosecutors said Summers hogtied Mathewson — the mother of his five kids — with Christmas lights and raped her during the two-day ordeal. The victim appeared badly shaken Wednesday after realizing that her tormentor was set to interrogate her at his leisure. “Good morning, Ms. Mathewson,” Summers said, as his ex-wife teared up and looked away without a response. The defendant quizzed her about their sex life before prosecutors objected — and challenged the claim that he had raped her after entering her residence through a window. “You broke into my home in the middle of the night… attacked me and tied me up,” Mathewson said after one of his questions. “Yes, you threatened me to have sex with you. You raped me!” “So you’re calling it rape?” Summers responded. “It is!” Mathewson said. “That is the definition of rape. To come into someone’s home and attack them and tie them up and then have sex with them! That is the definition of rape!” According to prosecutors, Summers later left the home and drove with Mathewson in search of a secluded marina where he planned to charter a boat, kill her, and then himself. But the captive seized an opportunity to flee when Summers stopped at a Walmart. Mathewson sneaked out of the car and ran around the parking lot while screaming for help. An employee called police after spotting Summers frantically shoving her back in the car and speeding off, prosecutors said. Mathewson testified Monday that Summers drove her to a secluded area and slashed her wrist to punish her for the escape try. The saga finally concluded with Summers cutting his neck and attempting to strangle Mathewson with a rope before officers arrived at the scene and placed him in custody.     Italian man tests positive for COVID-19, monkeypox and HIV all on the same day   An Italian man has become the first in the world to test positive for COVID-19, monkeypox and HIV all on the same day. The unidentified 36-year-old first developed a fever, sore throat and headaches nine days after returning from a trip to Spain where he had unprotected sex with other men, according to a case study in the Journal of Infection. He first tested positive for COVID-19 on July 2 — then within hours started getting a rash and “small, painful” blisters around his body, legs, face and butt, the study said. He went to an ER, and on the second day there again tested positive for COVID-19 — as well as monkeypox. That same day, July 6, he also learned that he had HIV, despite being negative when he last tested, in September, the study said. “As this is the only reported case of monkeypox virus, SARS-CoV-2 and HIV co-infection, there is still not enough evidence supporting that this combination may aggravate [a] patient’s condition,” they wrote. The researchers said that the “case emphasizes that sexual intercourse could be the predominant way of transmission” of monkeypox. “Therefore, complete [sexually transmitted infection] screening is recommended after a diagnosis of monkeypox. “In fact, our patient tested positive for HIV-1 and, given his preserved CD4 count, we could assume that the infection was relatively recent,” they noted of the patient, who previously also had syphilis. While it is the first known...

‘World’s most extravagant’ vibrator among stolen items in Texas sex shop heist   A naughty trio swiped more than $58,000 worth of sex toys from a Texas shop — including “the world’s most extravagant” Swarovski crystal-encrusted vibrator, according to the store. The racy, broad-daylight heist happened June 30 at Sexology Institute in San Antonio, with surveillance video catching the creeps breaking into the front door, then filling bags with sex toys, lubricants and lingerie before bolting in a truck. “We came in to empty racks,” Sexology Institute manager Jasper St. James told the San Antonio Express News. “They took the world’s most extravagant vibrator and they were done.” The fancy pleasure toy valued at $10,000 was a favorite among customers, who’d take pictures with it, St. James told the paper. The thieves — who took nearly everything in the store, including the cash register, according to St. James — have not yet been nailed. The only items left behind were books and LGBTQ merchandise. The store was forced to close its brick-and-mortar and online shops in order to restock. “We feel incredibly violated and our hearts are broken,” the shop wrote on Instagram. “As a small business this loss not only impacts us financially but emotionally as well. We know it will get better but even re-watching the videos of what happened makes us so anxiety-ridden. We are so glad no one was hurt and we completely understand things could have been worse, but it’s still awful.” Donations helped the store reopen its location in San Antonio’s King William neighborhood. “Unfortunately, the men are wearing masks, gloves, and there are no clear identifiers,” the Sexology Institute said in a post. “The truck seems to be a 2006 black-primed Chevy Silverado. If y’all recognize these men, the truck, or see any of our stolen items on Facebook Marketplace or local flea markets, please let us know.”     Texas man John Birdwell charged for allegedly headbutting father-in-law to death in bar   A Texas man is facing charges for allegedly killing his father-in-law by headbutting him at a local bar.  According to the incident report, the Fort Worth Police Department was called to Woody’s Tavern at approximately midnight after a fight broke out between John Birdwell, 38, and Robert Bearden, 66.  Birdwell was talking to his wife’s father at the bar about his troubled marriage and Bearden was trying to convince his son-in-law to sign divorce papers. Birdwell suddenly lost control and allegedly grabbed his father-in-law’s head and headbutted him three times, according to a police affidavit obtained by Fox 4. The assault continued until both men fell to the ground, Bearden unconscious from the attack. Other bar patrons were forced to pull Birdwell away, the affidavit states. Birdwell fled the scene after the attack. Bearden was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office said the cause of death was blunt head trauma. Birdwell is being held in the Tarrant County jail on a $75,000 bond.   Records show Bearden was a veterinarian at VCA Mercedes Place Animal Hospital in Benbrook, Texas.   Oklahoma woman Rachael Zion Clay slips out of cuffs, shoots cop   Oklahoma authorities have released wild dash and bodycam video that shows a handcuffed woman retrieving a police rifle and firing it out of the back of a patrol car – striking a civilian and a deputy. The Grady County Sheriff’s Office responded to a wellness check at a home in Blanchard just before noon on Aug. 12. Deputies took a woman into custody, placed her in handcuffs and into the back of a marked SUV. Video taken inside the vehicle shows her squirming in the backseat, slipping one hand out of her cuffs and fishing out the rifle. She loads it, aims out the window and begins firing. Officers’ bodycams recorded the civilian getting shot in the chest. A deputy also suffered a minor injury when a bullet grazed his head, according to authorities. The victims scrambled to take cover behind another law enforcement vehicle as they called in the incident.  The wounded man’s son was also nearby and is seen running over and assisting with first aid as officers call for backup and an ambulance. Both victims were hospitalized with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to authorities. Police initially described the encounter as a barricade situation and eventually the suspect, Rachael Zion Clay, surrendered to authorities. Jail records show she is being held at the Grady County jail on $1 million bond and a charge of “shooting with intent to kill.”     Off-campus UC Berkeley student housing bans white people from common areas   An off-campus housing co-op for University of California, Berkeley students bans white people from entering common spaces to “avoid white violence” — sparking criticism that the policy ...

Skunk sprays church robbery suspect Grant M. Simonson moments before arrest Whoever smelt it, dealt it. A suspected church burglar in Washington state got a smelly sendoff after a skunk sprayed him just before his arrest last week, authorities said. The incident happened around 3:10 a.m. Thursday when deputies responded to a reported burglary in progress at the Church of the Nazarene in Deer Park, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday. The caller told deputies that a male wearing a mask over his face and holding a flashlight was seen on a surveillance live feed walking around inside the church and looking at audio equipment. Deputies arrived at the scene and saw a man, later identified as 28-year-old Grant M. Simonson, walk past an open window and then begin to climb out, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies demanded the suspect show his hands and get on the ground. “He began to follow the commands when suddenly a skunk came running around the corner, approached Simonson, and released its well-known and malodorous spray before fleeing the area,” the sheriff’s office said. Simonson was taken into custody without further incident. After deputies read him his rights, they said Simonson claimed that he was “wide awake and bored,” so he went for a ride on his bicycle and noticed an open church window.  Deputies said he claimed to have gone home before returning on foot, removing a screen from the window and entering because he was “curious.” Simonson was booked into the Spokane County Jail for second-degree burglary. He was released later that day on his own recognizance.  As for the skunk, deputies said the animal’s whereabouts are unknown. “The skunk is a wild animal and not affiliated with law enforcement or the church,” the sheriff’s office advised.   Louisiana mom FaceTimed her ex to show how she’d slit his kids’ throats:   A disturbed Louisiana mom repeatedly video called her ex after slitting their two young kids’ throats — showing him his daughter “gasping for air” before she died, according to harrowing court documents of the “unspeakable” crime. Jenee Pedesclaux, 31, first called her ex, Jermaine Roberts, to tell him she’d damaged his vehicle amid their bitter child-custody battle — and that she planned to kill herself and their kids rather than go to jail, according to court documents obtained by NOLA.com. She then FaceTimed him three times to show how she’d stabbed their 2-year-old son, Jay’Ceon, and daughter, Paris, 4, the report said. In the last video call, she showed him how she had slit both kids’ throats — with their daughter “gasping for air” on the bed before later being pronounced dead in a local New Orleans hospital, the outlet said. Covered in blood, Pedesclaux at some point went on Facebook Live to blame her ex for the bloodbath.   “My children is dead! I’m done!” she howled in the distressing live video, although her young son survived. “I’m done with life, and it’s all Jermaine’s fault! … I’m killing myself, I’m done!” she sobbed. The kids’ dad — who called cops after the first threatening call — raced over to the house, but his ex had locked him out, Nola.com reported. “We gone. It’s over with,” Pedesclaux allegedly told him. The dad eventually managed to force his way in after smashing a window, finding his kids on a blood-soaked bed, the girl foaming at the mouth and her younger brother face down in blood, court documents said. Pedesclaux allegedly bit Roberts and threatened him with a knife before he took the children to University Medical Center, where they underwent emergency surgery. Despite multiple life-saving procedures, Paris was soon pronounced dead due to hemorrhagic shock due to her injuries, which included a cut on her neck, down to her spine, along with cuts to the chest and shoulders. Little Jay’Ceon remained intubated in critical condition as of Monday, awaiting another surgery to determine whether his trachea is healing correctly, the court docs said. Their mom had turned the knife on herself, but only suffered superficial cuts to her collar bone area, the report said. She was treated at a hospital before being booked into jail Monday night. Pedesclaux faces charges of second-degree murder, attempted murder, and second-degree cruelty to a juvenile, records show. She is due in court Thursday. The deadly attack came after a long-running child-custody battle between the pair, with the dad fighting for joint custody, arguing that his ex was “not stable or providing a healthy environment for the kids,” the outlet reported. Pedesclaux also tested positive in March for benzodiazepine, cocaine and cannabinoids during a drug screening at drug court, the outlet said. However, Pedesclaux’s family blamed mental health for the “unspeakable tragedy.” “Mental health is a crisis that is affecting every family and ours is no different. The lack of ...

Man in China arrested for marrying off underage, mentally disabled daughter to 3 different men for money     The father, surnamed Xie, from Lianyuan Hunan province, sold his daughter Tingting to receive bride payments. He claimed that his daughter was over 20 years old, although she was born in January 2005. Tingting first got engaged to a man in 2018 when she was under 14 years old. In 2019, she was engaged to a man, surnamed Chen, in his 30s. She had just turned 14, although Xie kept her true age a secret. The matchmaker who brought the two together stated that she was “18 years old and young and fertile” and that she “doesn’t even know that one plus one equals two.” When Chen asked Tingting for her ID card to open an account at the bank, he discovered that she was only 16 years old. He and his family, however, expressed nonchalance as the two had been married for more than two years at the time. “She was young and fertile, which is difficult to find in rural regions,” Chen said per South China Morning Post. Xie received more than 90,000 yuan (approximately $13,328) from Chen’s family. He also collected tens of thousands of yuan from the other two men as well. When the Chen family discovered that Xie had sold his daughter to a third family, they demanded their money back. Xie refused to return the money. When police arrested Xie in March, they discovered that he had spent all the money. The Lianyuan City Public Security Bureau announced on Aug. 2 that the investigation had been completed. The case has now been sent to prosecutors as they decide whether to charge Xie with fraud. Xie’s wife, who also has a mental disability, was sent to a nursing home in Lianyuan City Center, while Tingting was sent to the Lianyuan City Social Welfare Institute. Weibo users expressed outrage, condemning the father.   Russian groom Stepan Dolgikh sentenced for wedding-day murder of bride A groom has been sentenced to 18 years for killing his new wife on their wedding day in front of shocked guests. Stepan Dolgikh, 35, beat wife Oksana Poludentseva, 36, to death then dumped her body in a ravine. He told a court in Novosibirsk, Russia that he believed his new bride was cheating on him. Dolgikh had a previous conviction for murder but the wife – who got to know him while he was in prison as a pen pal – believed she could tame him. Witnesses said he started kicking and punching mother-of-one Poludentseva after becoming “jealous” of her communication with another guest at their alcohol-fuelled wedding party in a private house in Chik village.   He accused his new wife of “behaving incorrectly”, it was alleged. Chief investigator Kirill Petrushin said: “He began to punch and kick her outside the house.” He continued to attack her inside the house. “He grabbed her by the hair, hit her, pushed her out into the street, where he also continued to strike her body and head.” When she appeared lifeless “he dumped her into a nearby ravine”. The incident was several hours after the couple had exchanged vows at their wedding. Other guests were reportedly too scared to intervene but they called law enforcement. The groom was detained at the scene by the Russian National Guard. Dolgikh confessed to the killing, said Petrushin, senior regional detective of the Russian Investigative Committee. “He beat her for a long time, in front of witnesses, and struck her vital organs – in the torso and head,” he said. He “fully admitted guilt during the investigation” but failed to repent, he said. “He was jealous of her with one of the male guests,” said Petrushin. “It seemed to her husband that she had behaved incorrectly, which caused a scandal. “All the rest were afraid of him, so they tried to intervene, but were rebuffed.” A friend said: “She truly loved him, and was waiting for release.” “The deceased woman knew about his criminal record,” said Petrushin. “They met while he was serving a sentence in prison for his previous crimes.” He added: “She did not think that while drinking alcohol or just in a fit of anger, a person like this may go over the limit and commit a serious crime.” California dermatologist Yue Yu arrested for allegedly poisoning husband   A Southern California dermatologist was arrested last week for allegedly poisoning her husband — who set up a hidden camera to catch her in the act, police said. Yu’s 53-year-old husband Jack Chen told police he had been suffering from an unexplained ailment for about a month. “His condition became increasingly worse and based on the husband examining his routine and looking at what could be causing it, he grew suspicious of his wife and put a hidden camera in place that captured her poisoning him,” Irvine police Lt. Mom gets revenge on nosy neighbors using ‘drug-addled whores and drunks’ She made dummies out of them. A Michigan mom got the ultimate revenge on her nosy, spying neighbors — by adorning her garden with maniacal mannequins dressed as “drug-addled whores, drunks and accident victims” to give prying eyes something to stare it. Photos of her dummy security system are currently going viral as fans praise her ingenious method of exacting vengeance. “I just set up the poses and laugh,” Flint native Tammy Zuniga told Kennedy News of her hilarious hobby. Indeed, the 45-year-old nurse’s lawn is littered with passed-out drunkards — festooned with empty beer bottles — and scantily clad “dirty hoes” posing next to signs warning people not to feed them drugs and other lewd messages. In one humorous scene, a ladder accident victim is sprawled atop her roof beside a star-spangled cowboy hat like something out of a bizarro nuclear test town. The mother-of-two started erecting the purposefully profane displays two years ago as a “diversion.” She wanted to stop being “irritated with her nosy neighbors,” who allegedly spied on her while she was working. “I paint garden art out in my garage, I’ll make hundreds of statues. It’s my hobby,” explained the artist. “I’d be out in my garden working on art projects and I would see blinds moving in windows. There would be pictures being taken.” Along with snapping photos, the intrusive snoops would also tell Zuniga to paint with her door closed — a request the artist deemed ridiculous as she’d be unable to breathe. That’s when she decided to turn her artistic talents to trolling her tormenters with riff-raff facsimiles. “The first one I did, I set up a mannequin out on the porch wearing a sweater,” described the gleeful prankster. “The neighbours were so intrigued. I heard noise outside and looked out my window. Sure enough, they were all out there staring.” Next up, Zuniga hung a dummy from her garage for a whole month, Kennedy reported. She said the mannequin was so realistic that people would stop their cars on her block “because they thought somebody needed help.” “I try to keep a straight face through it all,” mused Zuniga. “I figure that if the neighbors think I’m crazy, they’ll stop bothering me.” It appears her neighbor-dissuading dummies are paying dividends. “It’s worked for the most part,” she said. “Neighbors don’t really talk to me much anymore, which is kind of nice. They probably think I’m the weird mannequin lady now.” The mannequin maven, for one, says she’s having a blast with the gag, describing: “What’s really bad is that I now seize every opportunity. Whenever I see them outside, I feel the need to set up the mannequins. I get excited to see them now, it’s not even normal.” The sight of her spying neighbors used to make her blood boil. However, now the giddy gal says she’s “looking out my window to see their reactions to my mannequins,” adding, “I’m having so much fun with this.” “Now, I can’t even be mad at them, because they’ve got to put up with me!” added Zuniga, who says the only problem is freaking out the repair people. “The hardest part was whenever I had someone come over to install a water softener or whatever,” she explained of the doll-lateral damage. “I’d forget to tell them that I had mannequins and not to be alarmed.” The jokester added, “They’d show up and they’d be like ‘Oh my god! I didn’t know what to think, I thought I’d have to save somebody!'” And Zuniga isn’t stopping her antics anytime soon, most recently putting up two ladies of the evening in spangly miniskirts and gaudy cutoff tops that display their midriffs. The inventive artist even posted signs that read “A dirty hoe is a happy hoe” and “Please do not feed the whores drugs.” The latest display will reportedly be up and trolling neighbors until winter. “Initially when I set them up, I thought they were going to be my last display,” said Zuniga. “But I don’t know anymore — I really had fun with it.” Despite her dedication to her doll-arama, the trickster says her goal isn’t to ruin her neighbor’s lives. She explained, “There could be way worse neighbors. Mine are just really incredibly nosy. I’m just trying to entertain them.”   10-year-old kidnapped after baseball practice punches man to escape   When an Oklahoma mom arrived at the baseball fields to pick up her 10-year-old son after practice, she reported he was nowhere to be found. Transgender cheerleader booted from camp denies physical altercation A transgender cheerleader kicked out of a Texas college camp for allegedly choking a teammate has denied that there was any physical altercation, claiming that she was booted from the team based solely on a dad’s “assumptions.” Averie Chanel Medlock, 25, insisted that her side of the story wasn’t heard before she was slapped with a criminal citation and kicked off her cheer team for allegedly assaulting another cheerleader on July 21 at Ranger College. “I was kicked off the team for assumptions, because of the dad’s assumptions of what happened,” Medlock told news stations KTAB/KRBC of the father of her teammate. Medlock, whose real name is Averie Chanel Satchell, claimed she and the other girl, identified only as Karleigh, had an ongoing dispute that boiled over, prompting her teammate to call her father and claim she choked her. Medlock then told officers she didn’t put her hands on Karleigh, but she was later cited for assault by physical contact, according to the stations.   Medlock said no one at the camp had any issues with her identity until Karleigh and her father complained. “They knew that I was trans,” Medlock said. “They knew that I was different from all the other girls. It wasn’t a big deal until her dad came up and made a scene.” Medlock was able to take part in Ranger College’s cheer program camp after being legally classified as a female in Texas and changing her name about a month earlier, according to the report. Medlock posted footage of what she called “video evidence” showing that she did not assault Karleigh as her teammate called her a “man” while saying she had a penis. “Her father is going around saying that I choked her out and made her pass out,” Medlock wrote in the post. “I was just joking with Karleigh,” Medlock said on the clip. “I’ve never done anything mean to Karleigh.” Medlock called out Karleigh’s father, Mike Jones, in the post, insisting that he “get his facts straight.” Jones, meanwhile, has claimed that his daughter called him at 1 a.m. while hiding in a room away from Medlock. “I just wonder when this person will own up to their own actions!” Jones wrote on Facebook. “And stop trying to ruin our lives!”     French fireman arrested, accused of being serial fire starter   A French fireman was arrested on suspicion of being a serial fire starter in a twisted bid for an adrenalin fix. The volunteer first responder, who hails from the south of France, is accused of kickstarting a series of wildfires in the Herault region, not far from the city of Montpellier. Earlier this month, Europe faced its most extreme heatwave to date, with temperatures reaching unprecedented highs of 105 degrees. About 14,000 people were evacuated from France’s Gironde region as more than 1,200 firefighters battled to bring the flames under control after a wildfire ravaged parts of Europe. Now, officials are investigating whether the 30-something firefighter — dubbed “pyromaniac fireman” by local news outlets — was responsible for July’s blaze. The man had admitted kickstarting infernos with a lighter on May 26, July 21, and most recently, on July 26 and July 27, Montpellier prosecutor Fabrice Belargent, told the Agence France-Presse. “Asked about his motive, he declared that he had done this in order to provoke an intervention by the fire brigade to save him from an oppressive family environment and because of the excitement these interventions caused him,” Belargent said in a statement. “Adrenaline he called it — these are his own words. He also said he had a need for social recognition,” he added. The man worked as a forest engineer for 20 years and is a municipal councilor. He is charged with the “destruction of forests, moors, scrubland or plantations belonging to others under conditions likely to expose people to physical harm.” Speaking to BFMTV, his lawyer, Marie Bar said: “He apologized to the firemen who he works with as he calls them his big family. This is someone who is very devoted to his work. “He finds it hard to explain. In a way he is relieved to have been arrested. He explains it as an addiction.” Meanwhile, former fire brigade colonel Ludovic Pinganaud told the outlet, “It’s disgusting to have within the organization this type of individual.”   Man trying to kill spider with lighter sparked Utah wildfire A man determined to kill a spider with a lighter ignited a 60-acre wildfire in drought-stricken Utah, authorities said. The suspect, who wasn’t immediately identified, was arrested Monday afternoon as 60 acres burned between Springville and Provo. He told responding deputies he had tried “using a lighter to burn a spider” before the fast-moving blaze broke out, according to the Utah County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies also found marijuana and drug paraphernalia in his backpack, department ...
