In which Jasper Holt, a respectable bank teller with a penchant for careful secrecy, visits an ancient, neglected house in a willow-enshrouded suburb to place candy concealed in booklike boxes among dusty tomes and transform himself into his reclusive, sombre twin brother, John Holt. The contrast between the bustling town and the eerie stillness of the old house is marked by whispered rumours, a persistent electric light, and the unraveling of two distinct lives bound by blood yet worlds apart in spirit.
