Yes, indeed- Let's get this podcast up and running!
Right now, my machine is waiting for some words, because what is a podcast without WORDS!!?? Right- it's nothing. And as of this moment, Nothing is on this podcast. And this is because here, in La Crosse Wisconsin, everything is now frozen- because of the weather.
Now, just this past weekend, I traveled to Illinois, the benighted state of darkness, to celebrate my mother's 100th birthday! My mother is wonderful indeed, and in fact her little home town is also wonderful. But the trip DOWN there is awful, and those horrible tollways are a trip on the path of hell itself! Illinois has been taken over the the spawn of hell, and has become one of, if not the WORST part of hell that I know of.
A trip to hell, down long ago streets that I remember so well from my ancient youth, that now has been transmogrified from innocence, to small town perfection- but now upgraded to mulit-million dollar perfection, that no real person can ever afford, but can only visit...
It was a wonderful party, and all of my little siblings, all eight of them along with my wonderful mother, all had a wonderful time. It was like a dream, a dream that we all had escaped from, and now could escape from once again- Back to an affordable, natural place- much as Illinois of the early 1950's had been. An innocent, halcyon land, where Abe Lincoln and Leave it to Beaver had dwelt happily alongside Andy Griffith. Where the dreams of young boys and girls were nurtured, and not stifled by Socialist mayors like Brendan Johnson, and oppressive taxes were not the rule in Cook County!
I escaped back to rural Wisconsin, with my wife and daughter, son in law and their four children in tow. Oh my God what a sight of relief I felt! My sister and family, all escaped to Texas, and a brother back to Tennessee. All have escaped...
But at what a cost! Illinois is GONE. The Illinois of my youth, the downstate Illinois of my college youth is GONE. Each part of my past, precious as it all was to me, is NO MORE. Put in your own youth, your memories, and what you'd hoped would be there for the future...
It won't be! Not unless you look outside of how you grew up, and realize that it never more will be, unless you go BACK to the way you grew up, and INSIST that it be this way again, and TAKE BACK YOUR WAYS AND DO IT ALL AGAIN!
