    Host: Allan Newsome Running time: 0:40:34 We just celebrated Mother's Day here in the U.S. and it made me wonder if there were any references during The Andy Griffith Show about mothers or Mother's Day. There are no dedicated Mother's Day episodes during the run of The Andy Griffith Show. That aligns with its gentle, everyday small-town storytelling rather than holiday-specific plots. References to mothers are subtle, infrequent, and often tied to character dynamics, with Aunt Bee serving as the central maternal/surrogate figure for Andy and Opie. I'll dig into some "mom" related topics like: Opie's Mother (Andy's late wife); Barney Fife's Mother; Howard Sprague's Mother; and, Aunt Bee as Mother Figure. We even have trivia by Paul Mulik about Motherhood that we'll play at the very beginning (so I don' give away any answers), so enjoy playing along. I'll go over some of the upcoming Mayberry events that you should be planning to attend, if you can. Plot Summary The County Nurse: Mary Simpson, the first of the county nurses, enlists Andy's help in getting Rafe Hollister to submit to a tetanus shot. Rafe refuses until Andy, using the old reverse psychology trick, gets Rafe to change his mind by serenading him with a song that Andy plans to sing at Rafe's funeral. Come morning, Otis finds that he's been turned over to "Bloody Mary," aka Aunt Bee, who decides to rehabilitate Otis once and for all.
