Somebody check on Joyhdae because Hov weekend has her heart rate at concert levels and the episode hasn’t even started.
But before the celebration, we go where the culture needs us to go. This week we sit with the story of Nolan Wells, the 18-year-old Mississippi athlete who went on a boat trip with his friends and never came home. His phone was on the boat. His data was wiped. His friends left without him. We talk about what this story triggers for Black parents, why “we come together, we leave together” is a survival rule and not a vibe, and Ryan gets real about the moment he became OhBlackRyan.
Then the chaos arrives on schedule. Big Tigger’s household is a whole Tyler Perry pilot. SZA joins the neurospicy club (welcome, sister). Beyoncé dropped Morning Dew on the 4th of July and started a 60-day countdown that has us adjusting our savings accounts. And Jay-Z is throwing himself a three-night extravaganza at Yankee Stadium, which means outfit deliberations, pop-up temptations, and guest appearance predictions.
Plus: we finally break down The Polygamist. Spoilers included. Franklin the Turtle slander included. Ryan watched 11 episodes of a show he calls garbage. Make it make sense.

    Segment Breakdown

    Am I the Asshole?
A 43-year-old traveling man, a single mom of two, six years, zero kid meetings. Joyhdae and Ryan land in very different places. The gavel gets banged.
    Justice for Nolan
The Nolan Wells case, what doesn’t add up, and the conversation Black parents can’t avoid. Handled with care, but handled honestly.
    The Big Tigger Situation
Domestic charges, a defamation lawsuit, a kidnapping arrest on I-85. Every week a new episode of As the World Turns. Mr. Tigga, please.
    Morning Dew Season
Beyoncé re-recorded a leaked demo, set a countdown to September 4th, and we are financially bracing ourselves. Act III? B’Day 20? Something’s coming.
    Hov Weekend Loading
Yankee Stadium. Three nights. Two hosts on two different days (Joyhdae fumbled a bag, allegedly). Knicks jerseys, Timbs on standby, and guest predictions.
    The Polygamist (Full Spoilers)
22 episodes of beautifully packaged trash. We knew who did it. We watched anyway. Jonas deserved worse.
    Dad vs Auntie Jokes
Submissions from the Framily this week, including one so dark Joyhdae needed a moment. The grand finale left her in actual tears.

We barely survived a heat wave, a hologram, and a Facebook group full of accidentally colonized racists. We survived a heat wave, a hologram, and a Facebook group full of accidentally colonized racists. Ryan spent half the episode sweating. Somebody get us some water. This week Joyhdae and Ryan are melting through the hottest week of the summer and somehow that’s the least unhinged part of the episode. Ryan just got back from the Left Coast with a new tattoo, a Liberty championship to brag about, and zero patience for Trump telling a crowd he “spoke to” Theodore Roosevelt, forgetting the man has been dead since 1919 and that he was actually talking to a hologram. A group of racists made a Facebook page called White and Proud, forgot to set it to private, and Black Twitter has moved in permanently. Young Miami’s “Spend That” has India Arie and Nicki Gilbert big mad, and Ryan’s out here defending it as the unofficial song of the summer while Joyhdae builds out a whole thesis on duality. Druski hosted the BET Awards and cooked, but Ryan has real questions about who’s actually running the show since the Paramount buyout. Plus a fake Janet Jackson AI video has Ryan on the verge of losing to the algorithm, Joyhdae is begging him and his wife to watch a South African telenovela immediately, and this week’s AITA has a man refusing to lend his girlfriend of four years money for college without a legal agreement, a case Ryan and Joyhdae land on very differently.

    Segment Breakdown

    Am I the Asshole?
A man, his girlfriend, and a debt repayment agreement. Ryan says leave the relationship. Joyhdae says leave the man.
Ryan’s Left Coast Recap and the Liberty Win
New ink, a Commissioner’s Cup, and Ryan defending the WNBA’s honor before they even get into the news.
America’s Birthday Flop and the Roosevelt Hologram
An empty fairground, a gold eagle, and Ryan saying he has to laugh to keep from crying.
White and Proud (and Fully Compromised)
A racist Facebook group forgot how privacy settings work. The results speak for themselves.
    Young Miami’s “Spend Dat” Discourse
India Arie has thoughts. Nicki Gilbert has more thoughts. Ryan’s fully on the song’s side and Joyhdae has a whole sermon about it.
    BET Awards: Druski’s Reign
The youngest host in BET history took over the ceiling and got the best ratings in years. Ryan’s got real questions about who’s cutting the checks now.
AI Is Coming for Your Common Sense
A fake Janet Jackson video is making the rounds and Joyhdae is trying, and failing, to save Ryan from the AI apocalypse.
    The Polygamist Preview
Joyhdae finished a South African telenovela in two days and needs Ryan and his wife to catch up immediately.
    Dad Jokes, Still Undefeated
They came back for round two and somehow got cornier.

If you’ve ever lost track of what year it is, questioned whether your president is okay, or found yourself somehow rooting for a Facebook group of racists to keep posting, this episode is for you.

    • Is he the asshole for wanting a legal agreement?
    • Was Druski the right call for BET?
    • Is “Spend Dat” a bop or a problem?

    Jun 29 2026

Recording at the butt ass of midnight. Ryan's catching a flight in a few hours. Joyhdae's on Cutwater. And somehow this is one of the most substantive episodes we've done.
We covered a LOT. A sister who bit the hand that was funding her honeymoon and got exactly what she deserved. YG dropped a six-minute song called "Tiffany" that split the internet clean in half -- and we actually sat with why the framing matters and not just whether it "slaps." A JPMorgan executive lost her six-figure job over a Knicks parade trash can (and brought it home on the subway, juices and all). Nine-year-old Young Roddo is going viral -- but the conversation shifted when his second song dropped and it wasn't about school anymore. And Jay-Z celebrated 30 years of Reasonable Doubt like only Jay-Z can: free Brooklyn pop-ups, a Yankee Stadium takeover, fireworks over the Hudson, and a limited library card that has Joyhdae considering going to Brooklyn willingly.
Oh, and Beyonce dropped a Cecred vlog that had us in our feelings -- and low-key reminded everyone why you don't come for the Carters.

    Segment Breakdown

AITA: The Honeymoon That Got Rescinded
She paid the "practice child" tax. Her sister disrespected her at every turn, assumed the money was guaranteed, and found out the hard way that Virgos have a latch on that switch. The $5,000 went bye bye. And Joyhdae had words for the parents too.
YG "Tiffany" -- The Song Nobody's Ready to Talk About Right
Six minutes. A trans woman. A man named Chris. And a conversation that the internet is having loudly and mostly badly. Ryan and Joyhdae don't duck it -- they go into the real question: what does it mean when the framing of a story is the harm, even if the ending isn't?
    The JPMorgan Trash Can Chronicles
Angie Baez. 40 years old. Executive Director. Knicks gear. One commemorative trash can. A subway ride home. And a termination letter. We understand the energy. We do not understand the decision-making.
Young Roddo and the Age-Appropriate Music Conversation
He's nine. He's from Chicago. Benny Blanco and Brent Faiyaz are in his comments. And Ryan and Joyhdae have thoughts about what happens when the internet catches a child and the parents let it run. Plus: why don't kids have options anymore?
Jay-Z's Reasonable Doubt at 30 -- Your Fave Could Never
Free pop-ups in Dumbo. Archival footage. The actual Lexus from the Dead Presidents video. A Brooklyn library card. Three sold-out nights at Yankee Stadium. Fireworks over the Hudson. And not a single new album in sight. We need y'all to study this.
The Blueprint: Beyonce, Blue Ivy, and Eight Years of Locs
Jay grew his hair out because his five-year-old told him she didn't feel confident about hers. Eight years later, Blue's hair is down her back and her passport is stamped. Beyonce filmed the whole loc removal for Cecred and casually ended the conversation about that man's hair. Nicki Minaj is somewhere quiet.

    Drop it in the comments:

If you've ever questioned your taste in music, lost a job over a moment of chaos, or just needed someone to explain why Jay-Z is built different -- this one's for you.
    Drop a comment:

    • Was YG's "Tiffany" brave storytelling or harmful framing?
    • Should Young Roddo's parents pump the brakes?
    • And do you agree that your fave could never?
