A 40-3 loss will make any fan see red, especially in a town where Friday Night Lights and Hamilton Big Blue football are stitched into the local identity. We take the emotion seriously, then we slow it down and ask a harder question: are we judging a whole program off one brutal night, or are we willing to look at the deeper forces that create a “down year” in high school football?

We walk through the season so far, including the uncomfortable scoring margin, and we talk about what “competitive” actually means week to week in the Great Miami Conference. The GMC is not a gentle schedule, and that matters when you’re staring at a 1-5 start and trying to find a path forward. We also dig into the football side: Hamilton’s traditional run-first identity, why adjustments and personnel choices get spotlighted when results crater, and how small changes can sometimes restore confidence even before the wins return.

Then we zoom out to program history and expectations. Hamilton is not Ohio State, and pretending it is sets everyone up for disappointment, from coaches to kids to families. We review past coaching results, where Coach Crouch fits in, and why multiple playoff trips should count for something when one season goes off the rails. We also read and react to the Facebook uproar, including the uncomfortable truth that culture and offseason buy-in can be as important as any play call.

If you care about Ohio high school football, Hamilton Ohio, or what community support should look like when a team struggles, this conversation will hit home. The first Friday night of the season is supposed to feel like hope. Then you pull into a brand new $15 million stadium, you hear a modern fight song coming off guitars, and you watch the other team make an entrance like they’re headlining a pay-per-view. That’s when I knew the Hamilton Big Blue vs Badin Rams rivalry was about to get messy.

I walk you through why Ohio high school football hits different in the Cincinnati and Butler County area, and why this specific rivalry carries extra weight. We talk history, expectations, and that constant feeling that Hamilton is trying to climb a standard Badin has owned for years. Then we get into the 2026 matchup itself: the quarterback changes, the “lunch pail” talk, the frustration of living in shotgun when you’re begging for a tougher identity, and the moment Baden goes for two on the first touchdown, like they’re sending a message across the field to Hamilton...Not Today.

And because it’s 2026, the game doesn’t end at the final whistle. I’ve got thoughts on TikTok highlights, smack talk culture, and what it does to a team when the clips keep showing up all week. If you care about high school football, rivalry games, community sports, or the X’s and O’s of building confidence early in a season, you’ll feel this one. Subscribe to WDYM, share this with a Big Blue fan or a Rams fan, and leave a review with your take: should rivalry games ever be scheduled for Week 1?
