  • HEALING SERIES: What The F is Yoga?
    Oct 4 2023

Yoga is a mind, body, soul practice that is at least 5,000 years old. As written in the book, Light on Yoga by B.K.S Iyengar, which I read in this episode, "The word Yoga is derived from the Sanskrit root yuj meaning to bind, join, attach, and yoke, to direct and concentrate one's attention on, to use and apply. It also means union or communion. It is the true union of our will with the will of God. 'It thus means,' says Mahadev Desai in his introduction to the Gita according to Ghandi, 'the yoking of all the powers of body, mind, and soul to God ; it means the disciplining of the intellect, the mind, the emotions, the will, which that Yoga pre-supposes ; it means a poise of the soul which enables one to look at life in all its aspects evenly.'

In this episode I share various types of yoga, my experience and perspective as a yoga teacher, as well as many excerpts from Light on Yoga," that explain the philosophy of yoga and it's parts.

I hope this episode inspires you to explore the practice if it is something you have thought about in the past. I hope it helps you see it as more than a workout or stretch, and instead a practice of discipline and patience that evolves into a journey of self discovery and enlightenment. I hope you see it as something that is for ANY and EVERY body of any shape, size, or ability. There is a practice for you.

  • Why the F I got a Mentor, my experiences with different coaches, and what the F to look out for
    May 17 2023

I get super vulnerable and personal in this episode as I share all of my experiences with the coaches and mentors I've had from the start of my personal development journey up until now. I share what I liked, what I didn't like, what I ignored, and some of the hard lessons I had to learn. I also share the bold move I made in order to pay for the mentor I currently have.

A good coach or mentor is essentially a teacher who's intention is to serve you by helping you learn how to level up and help yourself. A good teacher is one who is eventually no longer needed, but perhaps still wanted. There are so many different niches in the coaching world, and it's up to you to decide which one is the right fit for you.

Coaches and mentors are for people who are unhappy with their results in life and ready for a change, but it is NOT a replacement for getting a therapist. I always say that having both is the optimal combination. A therapist helps you heal from your past, while a good coach or mentor helps you create and focus on your goals in life so that you move forward and towards the way you truly want to live.

Coaching can be done one on one or in a group setting, via skype, or on the phone. Some will actually do in person if available. Different styles resonate with different people. The most important thing is that you listen to and trust yourself when picking the person you are trusting to teach you. It's also important to understand that a coach/mentor is not responsible for your results. You are. Their only responsibility is to teach you and teach you well.

I invested in working with coaches and programs that weren't what I thought they would be, but I still learned a ton from those experiences, and they eventually led me to the mentor hat I have now, who I love and am so so happy with. Sometimes it takes trial and error, but hopefully this episode will help prevent you from making the same mistakes I did.
