  • Episode 17: Hawks Nest Tunnel Disaster
    Apr 22 2026

The Hawks Nest Tunnel disaster turned a West Virginia hydro project into one of the worst industrial tragedies in U.S. history. CC and Kitty trace how silica-rich rock, dry drilling, and brutal labor conditions led to a wave of acute silicosis among mostly Black migrant workers, and why the true death toll is still disputed.

  • Episode 16: Sultana Disaster
    Apr 15 2026

CC and Kitty explore the Sultana disaster, the deadliest maritime disaster in U.S. history. In April 1865, an overloaded Mississippi River steamboat carrying paroled Union soldiers exploded north of Memphis after a rushed boiler repair and an impossible passenger load.

This episode follows the Sultana from Vicksburg to the explosion, the rescue effort, and the long trail of disputed casualty counts, weak accountability, and near-forgotten memory.

  • Episode 15: Andersonville Prison
    Apr 8 2026

CC and Kitty discuss Andersonville Prison, also known as Camp Sumter, which became the Confederacy’s most infamous prison camp and the deadliest landscape of the Civil War. Disease, overcrowding, poor sanitation, exposure, and malnutrition pushed the death toll to nearly 13,000. Andersonville still stands as a memorial to American prisoners of war and a reminder of what captivity looked like when systems collapsed and human beings were left to die in plain sight.
