  • Episode 10: Surgery Might Have Been a Bad Idea
    Mar 4 2026

The journey from the gruesome spectacles of the Renaissance anatomical theaters to the deadly, yet pivotal, era of Victorian surgery reveals a harrowing chapter in medical history.

The combination of rampant infection, blinding speed necessitated by agonizing pain, and a stubborn adherence to the flawed Miasma Theory made the operating theatre a place of terror.

  • Episode 8: Halifax Disaster
    Feb 18 2026

In this episode, hosts Kitty and CC delve into the catastrophic Halifax Explosion of 1917, a tragic event that resulted from a collision between two ships in Halifax Harbor during World War I. The Mont Blanc, laden with explosives, collided with the IMO, leading to a massive explosion that devastated the city, killing approximately 1,900 people and injuring thousands more. Kitty provides a vivid recounting of the events leading up to the explosion, the immediate aftermath, and the long-term effects on the community, including the challenges faced by survivors and the systemic injustices that followed.

The discussion also touches on the historical significance of Halifax and its strategic role during the war, as well as the lessons learned in maritime safety and urban planning that emerged from this disaster.

  • Episode 6: The Great Molasses Flood
    Feb 4 2026

Hosted by Kitty, the Great Molasses Flood was a total disaster.

On January 15, 1919, in Boston's North End, a massive steel tank holding over 2 million gallons of molasses suddenly ruptured, unleashing a 25-foot wave of the sticky, brown liquid. Traveling at 35 mph, this bizarre disaster crushed buildings, snapped elevated train tracks, and tragically killed 21 people and injured over 150. Join us as we explore the structural negligence of the U.S. Industrial Alcohol company (USIA), their attempt to blame Italian anarchists, and the five-year legal battle that set a precedent for industrial safety and engineering standards in the United States.

  • Episode 4: Poop Cruise
    Jan 21 2026

A relaxing 4-day cruise to Cozumel… turned into an 8-day nightmare.

On Feb 7, 2013, the Carnival Triumph set sail from Galveston, Texas, with 3,143 passengers and 1,086 crew. After an engine room fire knocked out power, the ship became dead in the water—no AC, no hot food, and (worst of all) no working toilets.

In this episode of Wreckage & Ruins, we break down what happened, why it happened, and what came after. A very poopy cruise disaster, hosted by Kitty.
