• Episode #148 - Coaching Tools: The ABCDE Model
    Feb 20 2026

Coaching conversations are a great space in which to support individuals in engaging in a spot of meta-cognition; doing a little thinking about their thinking. With a little help, our coachees can explore their potentially unhelpful thinking around a scenario that is proving difficult for them.

There are different ways of approaching such situations and various tools that we can utilise, as coaches, to support our coachee's thinking. One such tool is the ABCDE model, which has its origins in the work of one of the founders of the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy approach, Albert Ellis.

In this episode, we explore the ABCDE model, which allows the coachee to take any given event; consider what beliefs they have about that event; explore what the consequences of their belief and their thinking have, for themself and those around them.

Then, with the help of their coach, the coachee can dispute their own beliefs and reach a better emotional understanding and perspective.

Join us, on this week's podcast, as we take a deep dive into the value and utility of the ABCDE model in the coaching room.

  • Episode #147 - Coaching Approaches: Strengths Coaching
    Feb 13 2026

When coachees are facing difficulties in their work or home lives it's easy for them to spend their time in the coaching room in problem-talk. They often speak from a place of helplessness and a lack of resources. Using a strengths based approach can allow a coachee to connect with their own inner resources, and some external resources too, to allow them to think through their situation, find their own solution and move forward.

In this episode we explore what a strengths approach looks like, what tools are useful in drawing out someone's strengths and when it might be useful to engage with this approach.

  • Episode #143: Art in Coaching
    Jan 16 2026

Coaching can take many forms and, for the most part, it will involve a conversation where the coach is focused on the coachee. However, sometimes it's helpful for the coachee to draw their thoughts out on paper and for the focus in the coaching room to switch to what has been created.

Focusing on the coachee's artistic endeavours can reveal new insights and draw out aspects of a scenario that might never have surfaced in a normal coaching conversation. We're strong advocates of using art in coaching. In this episode we discuss different ways in which we might support our coachees in getting in touch with their creative talents and expanding their thinking in the process.

We explore some of the neurological reasons for the use of art being an effective approach in the coaching room and also invite our listeners to be curious and have a go at a simple artistic exercise.

  • Episode #141: Coaching Model: The 5 Dysfunctions of a Team
    Jan 2 2026

"The Five Dysfunctions of a Team," (5DT) is a team dynamics model, created by Patrick Lencioni. 5DT outlines a powerful, interconnected set of potential dysfunctions that a team might fall prey to, and offers an insight into what the underlying causes of the dysfunctions might be. In setting out the 5DT model, Lencioni provides a simple way to understand why teams struggle to achieve their full potential.

In this episode we explore the 5DT model and discuss why it might be useful for coaches to introduce it to their coachees. This is particularly relevant when working with leaders of teams.
