  • A Frozen Fairytale: The Story of King Frost
    Dec 15 2025

Can you withstand the wrath and icy breath of King Frost? I probably couldn't, and I'm extremely glad to be reading this chilly frosty tale from a blanket fort of my own! BUT it is in line with the snowy wintery weather that is creeping up, so grab some hot cocoa and join me for tonight's fairy tale: "The Story of King Frost!" Come for the story, stay for the prophetic talking barking doggie!

Once upon a time there was a wicked stepmother, who loved her own daughter so much, but cared little for her husband's daughter. Ah yes, how well we know this tale! BUT this one has a wintery twist! I was getting "Snow Queen" and "Frozen" vibes very very strongly through this reading. Anyway, we follow a young kind girls who gets dumped off in the forest to freeze (by her father! On her stepmother's wish!) and is instead... not frozen, but rewarded due to her polite and humble nature. You know where this is going. The stepmother wants the same reward for her own daughter, and well... let's just read the rest together, shall we? This Russian fairytale, "The Story of King Frost," (or "The Story of the Frost King" is read in a soft voice (with some light chatter and commentary - I am human and not a robot) and set to some light and soft background music. I do hope you enjoy the this evening's wintery fairytale!

  • A Creepy Coraline Origin Story: "The New Mother"
    Oct 30 2025

Trick or Treat? Happy Spooky Season, Friends and Fiends! I do hope you consider today's storytelling a treat! I'm so excited to share it with you, as it is kinda creepy in the "Coraline" "Other Mother" kind of way! I do believe Neil Gaiman (author of "Coraline") took some inspiration from this particular creepy tale. Join me as we follow the two "good" sisters, Blue Eyes and The Turkey, as they try their best to impress a strange bedraggled girl with a most curious and unique peardrum! This enigmatic and aloof wanderer will only let the girls see the tiny dancing man and woman inside it if they are very bad. Truly bad. Naughty and terrible beyond belief! This understandable upsets their sweet real mother, and she threatens to leave them to The New Mother, who has glass eyes and a long wooden tail, if they do not change their behavior! Will they turn out good? Will they be bad enough to see the dancers from the pear drum girl? Is this New Mother just as bad as Coraline's Other Mother? We shall see, right now, in this Coraline origin story of sorts!

This tale, "The New Mother," by Lucy Clifford, is read in a soft voice and set to some light and soft background music. I do hope you enjoy the this evening's short story!
