Londra, 1813. Simon Arthur Henry Fitzranulph Basset, nuovo duca di Hastings ed erede di uno dei titoli più antichi e prestigiosi d'Inghilterra, è uno scapolo assai desiderato. A dire il vero, è letteralmente perseguitato da schiere di madri dell'alta società che farebbero di tutto pur di combinare un buon matrimonio per le loro fanciulle in età da marito. Conscription and death. That is the sword of Damocles hanging over every peasant's head. As the realm gets overrun by bloodthirsty Beasts, every family has to pitch in. And so, to spare his father and siblings, Ferren offers to be the one from their household to join the king's army. But during an escort mission, Ferren's convoy is attacked and his right arm ripped off by a ferocious monster.

Ferren's family and neighbors had no other choice. Life on the frontier had become too dangerous, what with the Beasts' attacks getting more and more frequent and deadly. They all had to leave their farms behind to be relocated somewhere safe, closer to the capital. But the journey through the desert is no easy task, as they need to cross a hostile territory rife with monsters and dangers. Thankfully, the villagers can count on Ferren and the group of Powered accompanying him to protect them. And with any luck, the young farmer might even gain a new power or two to add to his arm arsenal.

It starts with a series of unexplained events. Earth tremors across the globe. Women being driven insane by their heightened and scrambled senses. And the world is starting to notice - the number one Twitter trend is #realfemmefatales. Governments and scientists are bewildered and silent. The world needs Torchwood, but there's not much of Torchwood left.
