Story0
When John Donne stood in the pulpit of St. Paul's, the lyricism of a great poet fused with the devotion of a holy man. There were no prepared sermons, for he spoke only from notes, and what he said was later transcribed from memory. But the sermons were overwhelming; for behind him was a lifetime devoted, as poet, philosopher and devine, to God.

And the Spirit and the Bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. This text is its own witness. It needs no man to testify to its origin. Its own words show it to be inspired and divine. But not from its mere poetic beauty, great as that is: greater than we, in this wet and cold climate, can see at the first glance. We must go to the far East and the far South to understand the images which were called up in the mind of an old Jew at the very name of wells and water-springs; and ...

Story0
After 20 years of marriage and 20 years of imaginary romances, Maggie Ellmann meets a man who makes all the previous ones seem like an augury. However, the stronger Maggie's feelings are, the bigger her determination is to end the romance and again be a “good wife and mother”, and a good Christian. So Maggie starts to pray to God to pull her out of the affair. Fire Sermon is a debut novel of an acclaimed poet and short story writer. It's lyrical and intense. It talks about lust and its nature, the womanhood trammeled by the rules of faith, and the breaking of taboos.
