It’s a New Jersey summer in 1967, and thirteen-year-old Ravi Ramanathan has the makings of a tennis prodigy. Sono dei perdenti, gli «eroi» di Yehoshua; uomini stanchi, incapaci di raggiungere i propri scopi, privi di certezze. Nemmeno i sentimenti sono un'ancora di salvezza, gli equilibri familiari sono fragili, gli amori disillusi.

Fabeln und Parabeln sind kurze Lehrerzählungen in Versen oder in Prosa. Der Unterschied liegt darin, dass in der Fabel die moralische Lehre explizit an den erzählenden Text angehängt oder ihm auch einmal vorangestellt wird, während es in der Parabel dem Leser oder Hörer selbst überlassen bleibt, diese Pointe herauszufinden. Ob die moralischen Überzeugungen des Predigers und Schriftstellers Abraham a Sancta Clara (1644-1709) auch heute noch ungeteilte Zustimmung finden können, sei dahingestellt.
