Winter 1933/34, eine wahre Geschichte: Waldemar Velte und Kurt Sandweg aus Wuppertal wollen weg. Weg aus Nazi-Deutschland, weg, um in Indien ein neues Leben zu beginnen. Das nötige Geld soll bei einer Bank in Stuttgart besorgt werden; die Aktion fordert versehentlich einen Toten. Doch ihre Flucht endet schon in Basel, denn dort verliebt sich Waldemar unsterblich in eine Schallplattenverkäuferin. Von da an kaufen die beiden Tag für Tag eine Tango-Platte - so lange, bis das Geld aufgebraucht ist und ein neuer Banküberfall notwendig wird.
