19,000 years ago artists painted a message in caves that would describe a fantastic story to future generations. Now evil elements within governments are racing each other to find one last cave. They think they have deciphered the story that will change the world forever but the story is incomplete. Who will discover the last cave and what will happen when they do?

A family holiday to the seaside takes a dramatic turn when Lady Ottilia Fanshawe's young son Luke accidentally stumbles on a body in a cave. Lady Fan and her husband Francis quickly rush to the scene and find the corpse bound and blindfolded with a bullet hole in his head. It appears the man was executed, and with smugglers well-known to operate in the area, the local sergeant suggests it was a quarrel amongst the reprobates.

It’s 1970, and young Annette Cooley is part of a small team working on an archaeological dig on the New South Wales south coast - a site that appears to prove that Aboriginal societies in the late Holocene were becoming less nomadic, even sedentary. The team is led by a husband-and-wife pair, stars in their field, Aled Wray and Marilyn Herr, and working on their sites promises to be the making of Annette as an archaeologist.
