Nussknacker und Mausekönig ist der Auftakt einer Serie mit Schauergeschichten von E.T.A. Hoffmann. Warum auch immer, denn schaurig ist an dieser Geschichte gar nichts, und die dröchte Umsetzung zerstört auch noch den letzten Hauch von Atmosphäre. Da heißt "Spätromantik" wohl bloß "es ist spät, und ich bin plötzlich so müde, Zeit zum Bubu machen".
