Mit "Überraschungen bis über beide Ohren" finden die Abenteuer des Knickohrhasen Hopsala in diesem zweiten Band eine spannende Fortsetzung. Hopsala ist anders als die Hasen, die man sonst so kennt. Diesmal hat er sich fest vorgenommen, die Welt ein bisschen schöner und besser zu machen. Dafür braucht er allerdings Hilfe. Neben seinem besten Freund Quacky, dem Frosch, und seinem ziemlich guten Freund Hopitz, begegnet Hopsala dem klugen Raben Ferdinand, der alten Eulendame Brunhilde, dem schönen Schmetterling Peppino und vielen anderen Tieren.

Der Knickohrhase Hopsala ist anders als die Hasen, die man sonst so kennt. Er ist der Kleinste und hat einen Knick im Ohr, darum wird er von vielen unterschätzt und ausgelacht. So zum Beispiel vom großen Angeberhasen Hopitz. Erst durch ein besonderes Erlebnis mit Hopsala kommt Hopitz zum Nachdenken und legt seinen Stolz und seine Vorurteile ab. Die Beiden werden ziemlich gute Freunde. Der Frosch Quacky mag den Hopsala genauso wie er ist. Durch die vielen Abenteuer und Begegnungen mit den Tieren im Wald wird bald klar, dass man Größe nicht immer in Zentimetern misst.
