New York private investigators–and super-sized, ever-so-slightly-paranormal siblings—Fran and Ken Stein are back in business. Thirty-two-year-old Austin Cobb is trying to find his birth parents to get an answer for a deeply rooted question: Was he put up for adoption because he’s on the autism spectrum? Fran and Ken personally know about abandonment, due to their parents leaving to keep them safe, hence the reason they founded K&F Stein Investigations. So naturally they want to help Austin and bring him good news.

An insight into the everyday human

Nick Ackerman’s life is an aimless circuit between his uninspiring job and the local bar until a note from a stranger changes everything. He learns he has a 14-year-old son, Billy, whose grandmother can no longer look after him. Railroaded into fatherhood, Nick takes in the resentful Billy and shuffles Grandma Evie off to the nearby dementia ward at Prairie View Manor. Things get off to a rocky start: father and son are little more than strangers, and Nick struggles with his new caretaking role while Billy can’t seem to let go of his.

How far would you go to keep a promise? Reed Bradford never should have made that promise. He’d barely survived the first time around, but now she was back, his best friend’s little sister, his one-time neighbor, and the woman that he never should have promised to protect. He never should have done a lot of things, like cross that line, but once he did.... There was no turning back.

Oreo is raised by her maternal grandparents in Philadelphia. Her black mother tours with a theatrical troupe, and her Jewish deadbeat dad disappeared when she was an infant, leaving behind a mysterious note that triggers her quest to find him. What ensues is a playful, modernized parody of the classical odyssey of Theseus with a feminist twist, immersed in seventies pop culture, and mixing standard English, black vernacular, and Yiddish with wisecracking aplomb.
