Hudson Fysh was a decorated World War I hero who not only founded Australia's national airline Qantas but steered it for almost half a century from its humble beginnings with two rickety biplanes to the age of the jumbo jets. One of Australia's celebrated Light Horsemen at Gallipoli, Fysh went on to fly death-defying missions for Lawrence of Arabia with the Australian Flying Corps and battle Germans in deadly dogfights in the skies over Palestine. On his return from the Great War, Fysh launched his bush airline, the Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services Ltd (Qantas).

Unrelenting winds, carnivorous polar bears, snake nests, sweltering heat, and constant hunger. Paddling from Minneapolis to Hudson Bay, following the 2,000-mile route made famous by Eric Sevareid in his 1935 classic Canoeing with the Cree, Natalie Warren and Ann Raiho faced unexpected trials, some harrowing, some simply odd. Warren's spellbinding account retraces the women's journey from inspiration to Arctic waters, giving listeners an insider view of planning a three-month canoe expedition to the successful accomplishment of the adventure of a lifetime.

Story0
In 1849, Henry David Thoreau argued in his essay “Civil Disobedience” that people should not allow governments to overrule or atrophy their consciences, and that people have the right to avoid such submission to permit the government to make them the agents of injustice. Thoreau was partly motivated by his abhorrence with slavery and the Mexican-American War. His work has inspired great leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Martin Buber.

Stories of life growing up on the shores of the Hudson River. From an abundant treasure trove of stories gathered from life, children, Shakespeare and other great teachers comes a personal podcast of stories that weave the thread of this life back down through the ages and forward into the future. These are the stories I would tell my grandchildren if I ever had any. These are the stories I have shared with countless children – those who shared a time of learning with me as students, my own two children who love and tell stories of their own, and for Lu, who loved the “gory stories” best...

The Glitched Gavel: Justice, Out of Sync.Every landmark trial ends with the strike of a gavel—but what happens when the echoes of that strike never fade? We like to think of the law as a finished product, but our legal history is full of glitches: outdated precedents, eccentric judges, and bizarre verdicts that have quietly shaped the world you live in today. In each episode, we reopen the files on history’s most famous trials—from the Salem Witch Trials to the Scopes Monkey Trial—to find the "code" that still runs in the background of our modern lives. Whether it’s how a 19th-century...

Story0
This is the first episode in a series that has the desired goal of combatting a negative perception that many people have of Memphis, TN as being a very dangerous place to live and thrive, given the crime reports over the years. Though the crime rate must be addressed and should never be minimized; I feel that there is a much more negative underlying message that must also be addressed as well, based on the demographic makeup of the city; a message that feeds into a very unflattering stigma that other similar US cities with similar demographic makeup faces as well. It starts here!
