Lileala has just been named the Rare Indigo—beauty among beauties—and is about to embrace her stardom, until something threatens to change her whole lifestyle and turn the planet of Swazembi upside down. Colonized by the descendants of Earth's West African Dogon Tribe, the planet of Swazembi is a blazing, color-rich utopia and famous vacation center of the galaxy. No one is used to serious trouble in this idyllic, peace-loving world, least of all the Rare Indigo. But Lileala's perfect, pampered lifestyle is about to be shattered.

As a reward for saving Princess Kalliopy, Kevin ends up in the hands of pirates, who have nefarious plans for his future. Things look bleak, and his options are few. Meanwhile, Boomer is mad at the princess for delivering Kevin to the enemy, and when an old foe comes into the picture, he has no other choice but to team up with her to mount a mission to rescue Kevin. Kevin is forced to do horrible deeds while he bides his time hoping to escape his predicament. His friends are determined to get him out of Dodge, but the rescue mission is more complicated than it first appears.

Geoff and his friends live in Phocaea, a distant asteroid colony on the Solar System's frontier. They're your basic high-spirited young adults, enjoying such pastimes as hacking matter compilers to produce dancing skeletons that prance through the low-gee communal areas, using their rocket-bikes to salvage methane ice shrapnel that flies away when the colony brings in a big (and vital) rock of the stuff, and figuring out how to avoid the ubiquitous surveillance motes.

The planet of Azure is nearly idyllic: There is a high standard of living, industry is booming, and the two races — Human and Wrogul — get along well with each other most days. But underneath it all, there is tension between the races. Despite having no reason for it, the Humans don’t always trust the Wrogul, and there is a faction within the Wrogul community that doesn’t want its young growing up “Human.”

The World is caught off guard by the sudden advances in technology, some are not happy about that at all. Bethany Anne's group needs to move into production, who is she going to hire for that position? Old enemies take a stronger stance at revenge than before.
