Jazz band na sala da gente é a história romanceada do avô judeu de Alexandre, Eduardinho Staut, que nos anos 30 e 40, foi músico da pequena orquestra do interior de São Paulo "Pinhal Jazz", assim como dono da funerária da cidade de Pinhal. 1940. Aiyi Shao is a young heiress and the owner of a formerly popular and glamorous Shanghai nightclub. Ernest Reismann is a penniless Jewish refugee driven out of Germany, an outsider searching for shelter in a city wary of strangers. He loses nearly all hope until he crosses paths with Aiyi. When she hires Ernest to play piano at her club, her defiance of custom causes a sensation. His instant fame makes Aiyi’s club once again the hottest spot in Shanghai. In der Geschichte der deutschen Literatur ist die von dem Lyriker Rühmkorf, dem Pianisten Naura und dem Vibraphonisten Schlüter entwickelte Form von Jazz & Lyrik einzigartig. Sie entstand in den fünfziger und sechziger Jahren mit Auftritten, die von einem Wechsel zwischen dem gesprochenen Gedicht und Jazzmusik lebte und Vorbilder bereits in den dreißiger und vierziger Jahren in den USA hatten. Diese Vorform gipfelte 1966 in der Veranstaltung auf dem Hamburger Adolphsplatz (vgl. Chronologie).

The Great Gatsby takes us to New York in the 1920s, where jazz can be heard everywhere, underground alcohol trade flourishes, and the mafia rules the city. It is a time of great crisis and equally great profits. A time when it was easiest to become somebody in a short period after previously being nobody. Such a person was Jay Gatsby, dreaming of great wealth and power. To fulfill these dreams, he gets involved in the gears of the criminal underworld and high finance.

It's 1924, and Peter and Patricia have what looks to be a very modern marriage. Both drink. Both smoke. Both work, Patricia as a head copywriter at a major department store. When it comes to sex with other people, both believe in "the honesty policy." Until they don't. Or, at least, until Peter doesn't—and a shell-shocked, lovesick Patricia finds herself starting out all over again, but this time around as a different kind of single woman: the ex-wife.
