D'une manière générale, ce projet repose sur les mécanismes de dissociation psychologique des sujets, que celle-ci soit induite volontairement ou déjà présente. Il s'agit dans le projet MK-Ultra d'utiliser cette dissociation pour provoquer des comportements.
