The solution in each case was a focus on customer experience, the most powerful - and misunderstood - element of corporate strategy today. Customer experience is, quite simply, how your customers perceive their every interaction with your company. It’s a fundamental business driver. Leading is inevitably frustrating and emotionally demanding, yet leaders get little training in how to deal with painful emotions. Since the pandemic, stresses on leaders have only grown. To lead effectively in an age of anxiety, leaders must build the capacity to act in spite of unpleasant emotions, and bring a learning mindset to challenges that can otherwise feel overwhelming. Leading Outside Your Comfort Zone draws on a wide body of research to show how well-being and resilience emerges from this struggle; leaders grow by adopting a learning mindset in the face of unpleasant emotions.

Story0
From the best-selling coauthor of the business classic The Wisdom of Teams comes an all-new exploration of the modern workplace, and how leaders and managers must embrace it for success. Katzenbach and Khan examine how two distinct factions together form the bigger picture for how organizations actually work: the more defined "formal" organization of a company - the management structure, performance metrics, and processes - and the "informal" - the culture, social networks, and ad hoc communities that spring up naturally....

Outside the Conference Room

Story0
Leaders spend a lot of time in big conference rooms and important meetings. As a society we’ve come to expect this, but that’s not where leadership happens. Leadership happens in the daily interactions on the assembly line, in every 1-on-1 that a manager does with their direct reports, or as you coach a front line customer service representative through a difficult call. An experienced team member that welcomes a new team member is showing leadership, regardless of any explicit leadership responsibility. To put it succinctly, most leadership happens OTCR - Outside of the Conference Room.

I believe that leaders can be found in any part of a business, team, family, or any other organization. What that means for any organization, is that most of that leadership work happens outside of the conference room.
