But when a rival ends up dead on opening night, Cinnamon's life is thrown into turmoil as the murder investigation takes a grim turn.

Autumn has arrived in Christmas River, but frustration levels are at an all-time high for the small town's residents as an unseasonable heat wave plagues the central Oregon Cascades. Sheriff Jeff McQuede battles treacherous rapids in search of Andy Norton. Twenty-one-year-old Andy, known for perpetuating fake publicity stunts, has wandered from the isolated Rapid River Outpost and failed to return. When McQuede arrives at the lodge, to his amazement he encounters the person he least expects — Loris Conner — who has just days ago left him at the altar.

On a snowy night on the outskirts of Lyon, France, the son of the Somarec chairman is brutally attacked. The assailant leaves only one clue - a cryptic message: "Najuno, remember." A reminder of an environmental tragedy Somarec was responsible for 20 years earlier in Chile.... Sister Blandine, a former detective who left police work behind to enter the convent, is on the case.
