Swann’s Way is the first of seven volumes in Remembrance of Things Past. It sets the scene with the narrator’s memories being famously provoked by the taste of that little cake, the madeleine, accompanied by a cup of lime-flowered tea. It is an unmatched portrait of fin-de-siècle France.

Proust ci dice che non ha narrato la "Recherche" per dei lettori, i suoi: "Infatti non sarebbero stati, secondo me, lettori miei, ma lettori di se stessi [...], li avrei muniti, grazie al mio libro, del mezzo per leggere in se stessi." Sembra impossibile, ma "Alla ricerca del tempo perduto" è un audiolibro che contiene un mondo, forse il mondo, e con esso la dimensione più umana di tutte: il tempo. E come una luce o un preludio, "Dalla parte di Swann" ci introduce, illumina quest'opera monumentale, i suoi temi e i suoi personaggi;

"Du côté de chez Swann" est à la fois l'ouverture de toute l'œuvre, et un roman complet, pourvu d'une conclusion, certes provisoire, mais dont la désillusion peut paraître, à qui ne lirait pas plus loin, le dernier mot de "La recherche".

"Dalla parte di Swann" è il primo volume di "Alla ricerca del tempo perduto" (la 'Recherche'), l'opera più importante di Marcel Proust, scritta tra il 1909 e il 1922, pubblicata in sette volumi tra il 1913 e il 1927 (viene considerato il romanzo più lungo di sempre). Questo volume contiene tre parti: 'Combray', 'Un amore di Swann' e 'Nomi di paesi: il nome'. In questo primo volume troviamo i temi principali e alcuni dei personaggi fondamentali della vicenda.
