The District is a seven-part podcast from the Stuff Circuit investigative team. It’s a story about injustice, but mostly it’s a story about people. People who are trying to get on with their lives, but can’t. It centres on an infamous unsolved murder case, in a rural district of New Zealand: examining the colourful characters involved and their unending search for justice, the kicks in the guts, the suspicions, and the fresh clues - could they hold the answer to New Zealand’s most notorious cold case? The District is also about another strange death; another family gripped by a sense ...

In the isolated town of Mzinsk, Katerina finds solace from her mundane existence in a passionate affair with Sergei. Yet, as their love deepens, so too does their descent into darkness, leading to a series of shocking murders. Nikolai Leskovs compelling novella, first published in Russian in 1865, draws inspiration from Shakespeares Lady Macbeth, but Katerinas fate takes a strikingly different turn. - Summary by Phil Benson

Created, written, and directed by former law student Ed Byron, the series was inspired by the early years of New York governor Thomas E. Dewey. Dewey's public war against racketeering led to his election as governor. Phillips H. Lord, creator of Gang Busters, helped to develop the concept and coined the title. Byron lent an air of accuracy and immediacy to his scripts through close study of crime statistics, a library of criminology texts, following the newspapers and even visiting rough bars to gain tips, background and color from crooks and police.Produced throughout its run in New York...

Story0
Ackroyd portrays London from the time of the druids to the beginning of the twenty-first century, noting magnificence in both epochs, but this is not a simple chronological record. It is a comprehensive account, animated by Ackroyd's concern for the close relationship between the present and the past as well as by what he describes as the peculiar "echoic" quality of London whereby its texture and history actively affect the lives and personalities of its citizens.

Sex workers in 19th-century Melbourne were judged morally corrupt by the respectable world around them. But theirs was a thriving trade, with links to the police and political leaders of the day, and the leading brothels were usually managed by women. While today a popular bar and a city lane are famously named after Madame Brussels, the identities of the other ‘flash madams’, the ‘dressed girls’ who worked for them and the hundreds of women who solicited on the streets of the Little Lon district of Melbourne are not remembered.
