श्री गुरू गोविंद सिंह हे शिखांचे दहावे आणि अंतिम 'देहधारी गुरू' होत. त्यांनी शिखांचा पवित्र धार्मिक ग्रंथ गुरू ग्रंथ साहिबचे संकलन आणि लिखाण केले. गुरू गोविंद सिंह यांचा आदेश: 'सब सिखन को हुकूम है, गुरू मान्यो ग्रंथ' (सर्व शिखांना असा हुकूम आहे की गुरू ग्रंथ साहिब लाच आपला गुरू माना). नांदेड शहरात गुरू गोविंद सिंह यांच्या समाधी वर बांधलेला गुरुद्वारा तख्त सचखंड श्री हुजूर अबचलनगर साहिब आहे. यामुळे नांदेडला शिखांची काशी असे म्हटले जाते. आजही पंजाबसह अनेक ठिकाणाहून शीख लोक नांदेडला गुरूद्वाऱ्यात भेटी देण्याकरीता येतात. त्यांच्या जीवनचरित्राची ओळख याठिकाणी आहे.
