Max Frischs Tagebuch "1946-1949" ist eine Bestandsaufnahme. Denkt man an Theodor Fontane, dann denkt man an "Effi Briest" oder an seine "Wanderungen durch die Mark Brandenburg". Fast vergessen dagegen sind seine Erlebnisse als Kriegsreporter bei den preußischen Truppen. So wurde Fontane bei einer Reise 1870 durch das halb besetzte Frankreich verdächtigt, ein Spion zu sein, geriet in französische Kriegsgefangenschaft in Paris und wurde erst auf Intervention Bismarcks freigelassen. Friedrich Hölderlin war ein Dichter, der um 1800 an der Enge seines Alltags zu ersticken glaubte.
